From Inkigayo to the VMA Stage! Here’s a tribute to BLACKPINK’s Top Live Performances
VMA recently announced BLACKPINK as one of the artists to perform at the award show. Therefore, making the K-Pop Queens the first all-female KPOP act to ever perform at the international award-giving body. Ever since their debut, the quartet has always had the killer instinct to command the stage. Furthermore, they perform with their pride as idols on the line and when they sing – it’s live. Their mics are on!
From their debut stage on Inkigayo, to their upcoming VMA performance; let’s all be captivated by the fierce charisma these four ladies possess on stage. Here are 4 of the group’s most talked about and simply phenomenal stage command!
BLACKPINK – ‘휘파람 (WHISTLE)’ + ‘불장난 (PLAYING WITH FIRE)’ in 2016 SBS Gayodaejun
When I said BLACKPINK has always had amazing stage control and fierce charisma on stage since their debut, I’m not overexaggerating! This performance alone speaks for itself. BLACKPINK was not called monster rookies for nothing. Only 4 months since their debut, they were able to execute a top-tier performance with Whistle and Playing with Fire. They were rookies that were able to exude that much stage presence, no one is doing it like BLACKPINK!
BLACKPINK – ‘SOLO’ + ‘뚜두뚜두(DDU-DU DDU-DU)’ + ‘FOREVER YOUNG’ in 2018 SBS Gayodaejun
We have to give it to SBS Gayodaejun for letting BLACKPINK shine with every performance on that stage. Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa managed to make the award show their own concert by claiming the stage with their overflowing confidence and grit. Opening the program with soloist Jennie and quickly followed by the group as a whole was one of the smoothest transitions I’ve seen on award shows by far.
BLACKPINK – ‘뚜두뚜두 (DDU-DU DDU-DU)’ 2019 Coachella Live Performance
BLACKPINK’s whole set on Coachella is history in itself. They were the first Korean female act to ever grace the most well-known music festival. As a result, every BLACKPINK fan, K-Pop fan, and even casual listener of music knew of BLACKPINK after their legendary performance on the Sahara stage. Ddu-Du Ddu-Du was reinterpreted with a full live band accompanying them on stage making the song a refreshing musical rework. BLACKPINK delivered a performance so strong they were able to hype up crowds of non-Korean speakers. They were able to prove that good music and performance trample language and cultural barriers
BLACKPINK – ‘Pretty Savage’ 2021 [THE SHOW]
The attitude, facial expression, live vocals, choreography, fits, sass, savagery, the live band! BLACKPINK’s Pretty Savage was an overall serve! Every rendition of their music that they performed in their online concert was a sight to behold. When you think nothing can top off their Coachella performance, wait till you watch The Show!
Knowing that BLACKPINK always delivers on stage, it’s no longer a question if they’ll do well on the VMA stage, rather it’s a question of how they’ll be able to outperform their usual best.
