6 Spooky-Themed Video Games To Play For Halloween

There is something about all things scary that keeps us coming back. Of course, this includes scary video games. It draws us into the experience and interacts with horror without being in any real and physical danger. And, Halloween is the best time to play horror video games either alone or with your friends. In this article, I list down only six of the video games that I personally love.

6 Spooky-Themed Video Games To Play For Halloween

Resident Evil Village

In May 2021, I wrote an article all about Lady Dimitrescu from Resident Evil Village. I love watching people play this game. It revolves around Ethan Winters. Years after the tragic events of Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, Ethan has started his life over with his wife, Mia. Living in peace, he has put the past behind them and even had a baby named Rosemary. Legendary hero Chris Redfield disrupts their life and throws Ethan into a new and twisted nightmare in search of answers. Of course, every other game under the franchise is a perfect one to play during Halloween. But, Resident Evil Village is my favorite out of all.

Five Nights at Freddy’s

Five Nights at Freddy’s literally captured an entire generation. The game was my introduction to horror video games. Its main storyline centers around the player who takes on the role of a security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. The goal is to survive five separate night shifts while avoiding the antagonists, the restaurant’s animatronics that have been exhibiting unpredictable behavior. Meanwhile, it slowly uncovers hidden storylines through introduction of new robots and 8-bit mini games throughout the five nights. And, to be honest, I only recently found out that the animatronics were being possessed by the soults of five murdered children within the pizzeria. There has been eight Five Nights at Freddy’s games but the very first one had me in a chokehold. Playing this on Halloween is definitely going to make me cry.

Poppy Playtime

Poppy Playtime creeps me the fuck out. Players will find themselves exploring the closed Playtime Co. Toy Factory where Poppy and other toys were manufactured. Players take on the role of a former employee who deceides to check on the factory. However, the factory closed down a decade ago so it had been abandoned for a long time. It closed indefinitely due to staff coming in to work and never being able to come out. Although the toys seem harmless, the missing staff members of the toy factory are made into these violent toys after experiments. Although the name Huggy Wuggy sounds so cute, it’s the most terrorizing toy of all. Playing this on Halloween is going to terrorize me even more.

Dead by Daylight

Dead by Daylight is literally a scary game of hide-and-seek. It’s better to be played with friends. You will take on the role of Survivors that need to repair generators all around the map to power up the Exit Gates and escape from the Killer who will try to sacrifice you to the Entity. As the Killer, on the other hand, you’re going to have to impale all Survivors on hooks before they escape. If only one Survivor remains, an escape hatch opens. You don’t need to dress up for Halloween to scare your friends. All you need to do is invite them on a game of Dead by Daylight.

Little Nightmares

Little Nightmares has become one of the most beloved puzzle-platform and survival-horror video game series. A few years ago, they released the first game which revolved around a little girl named Six, wearing an iconic yellow raincoat. She journeyed through the Maw, trying to satisfy her insatiable hunger. The Little Nightmares II, on the other hand, is a prequel where players portray the role of Mono, a young boy trapped in a world distorted by the humming transmission of a distant tower. The game starts with the boy awakening from a dream and he would later find a little girl held prisoner which turns out to be Six. The story of the game definitely became the reason why I loved it so much. The twist was so shocking that I couldn’t get over it for a long time. And, if I can, I would love to play it during Halloween.

Phasmophobia

I love watching YouTube videos of people going ghost hunting, especially if it’s Sam and Colby. With Phasmophobia, we get to experience ghost hunting on our own. The player either works solo or in a group, preferable with friends, to complete a contract in which they must identify the type of ghost haunting the specified site. I liked this game, despite the scuffed quality. It’s so interesting to learn the many different ghosts in the game and how you’re going to survive them. Plus, it reminds me of the time where we all have that one place in our hometowns that are marked as odd and stories about it typically involves murders and demons and so much more. Playing this on Halloween is like going ghost hunting in the comfort of our own homes.
