Warning: Spoiler Alert!

A must-watch definitely as HBO’s House of the Dragon has closed the curtains for its premier first season. House of The Dragon’s fierciest princess

People cannot stop clamoring about how Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen is a force to reckon with. Indeed she is not as mature as her future granddaughter Daenerys Targaryen, also known as Khaleesi, and the dragons’ mother in Game of Thrones. Rhaenyra is an innocent young lady who always wanted to impress her father. However, she struggled as the lone heir as her gender can break the stereotype of a rightful leader which is only recognized for male characters.

Despite not having a solid motivation to fight for the iron throne, the young Princess Rhaenyra, played by Milly Alcock reflected innocence and hunger. Purity in the form that she was unaware of how big of a threat she became. And desire in the form of the lack of guidance where her father never taught her, King Viserys Targaryen I, to lead.

Unlike Game of Thrones, the characters flashed in front of the eyes of the viewers. The adult Princess Rhaenery played by non-binary actor Emma D’arcy appeared in the mid-season. The promised heir stood with protection under his father and the King. Not until King Viserys Targaryen I died which led to massive chaos on the iron throne between Princess Rhaenyra and Aegon Targaryen II. And as we wait for the second season, fans cannot stop wondering how the first character will conquer Westeros.

House of the Dragon’s finest knight and lover

A fine knight who yielded an essential lesson in the House of the Dragon series is Ser Criston Cole. Played by Fabien Frankel, the dashing knight lured viewers to his loyalty primarily when serving Princess Rhaenyra. Unknowingly playing as a personal guard, he once fell in love with the princess whom he has not received in return.

The real tearjerker in this character is how bravely she asks Princess Rhaenyra to leave the spotlight and join him to be free outside the kingdom. Yet the princess refused to see the knight’s point as she had already embraced the iron throne. Ser Criston Cole showed nothing but the pure desire to give her beloved princess freedom, although her destiny is inevitable. Later on, Ser Criston Cole served as the guard of the new queen Alicent Hightower whom he served faithfully.

King Viserys Targaryen I, the first of his name

He truly is the most peaceful man yet powerful royalty in House of the Dragon. Paddy Considine gave life to the character of the fifth Targaryen who sat on the Iron Throne. With his controversial succession against female cousin Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, he displayed a turn of tides throughout the series. Rhaenys, who was forsaken of destiny to be the queen, witnessed again how a female could finally conquer Westeros in the form of her niece Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. And so the King promised to bring his eldest child, a female, to be the next Targaryen to sit on the iron throne until his last breath.

King Viserys Targaryen attempted to finish the family quarrel in the series’s eighth episode. The dying King, who suffers from unknown sickness, shows his strength in his family by fixing the cracks between his firstborn and his children with Queen Alicent Hightower. Although the viewers welcome this scene where the King sits at a dinner table, everyone knows that the cracks will grow more significant inside the House of the Dragon.

Whether these characters are bounded to their destiny, it cannot be denied that they showed humanity. This lead people to wonder how the famous Targaryen family will stand against one another in the future series. And as the creators and writers of HBO continue to show a speck of reality in this fictional series, more people should watch this show and learn from the three best characters of the House of the Dragon.
