Fil-Am Averie Bishop is Miss America 2023 2nd runner-up

After making history as the first Asian-American to win the title of Miss Texas, Averie Bishop would go on to place as 2nd runner-up at Miss America 2023. The 95th edition of the pageant took place at the Mohegan Casino and Resort in the US State of Connecticut.

As a first-generation law graduate, Averie will be receiving a scholarship worth 20,000 dollars. She places third behind eventual winner Grace Stanke of Wisconsin as well as 1st runner-up Taryn Smith of New York. Completing the set of runner-ups are Elizabeth Lynch of West Virginia, and Kelsey Hollis of Georgia.

Born to Filipino parents, Averie and her family would eventually relocate to the US, settling in Carrollton, Texas. The 25-year-old is an advocate for social inclusivity, she launched her social impact initiative called, “Y’all Means All”.

Through this platform, she aims to make every child feel at home doing so through policy writing, diversity & inclusion school programs, and digital representation. She also has her international nonprofit foundation, the “Tulong Foundation“.

Helping young Filipinos living in impoverished communities, the foundation sets its goals to educate, encourage, and empower.

In about a month, fellow Texan Filipina R’Bonney Gabriel will be competing at Miss Universe 2022. Representing the US, she also made history as the first Miss Texas USA with Filipino roots.
