5th VP Choice Awards: ‘Rewind’ is Movie of the Year, Marian Rivera Crowned as Movie Actress of the Year

In its 5th year, the Village Pipol Choice Awards once again felt the power of the PIPOL’s influence. With its enchanting theme “Celestial Radiance: A Night of Luminous Elegance,” this prestigious event, spearheaded by Village Pipol and Red Entertainment Inc., acknowledges the luminaries across diverse industries, who sculpt the landscape of pop culture and entertainment with their unmistakable brilliance.

The Pipiol’s choice for Movie of the Year is ‘Rewind’!

Star Cinema’s official entry for the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival, “Rewind”, wins the Pipol’s Choice as Movie of the Year. Marian Rivera-Dantes and Dingdong Dantes’ comeback as a long time on-screen love team surely became iconic because Rewind’s success continues to reach new heights. The TV love team to real-life couple became the perfect cast for their respective roles, delivering acclaimed performances. As we haven’t seen both onscreen in a long time, the film drew the general public back to the cinemas.

Rewind follows the story of a man, John (Dingdong), who makes an unusual deal with someone that allows him to travel  back in time to fix his and his wife, Mary’s (Marian),  rocky relationship following her untimely death. Viewers found the story a typical Filipino drama but upon watching, the unique lessons in it became remarkable to audiences.

Rewind’s Successful Release

Rewind received positive responses from audiences, leading to its successful gross in cinemas since its December release nationwide and subsequently, in international cinemas. The film earned the title of Philippines’ highest-grossing film of all time, their gross total sales of P845 million both local and international, as of January 17, 2024. Currently, the award-winning film is available for streaming on Netflix.

Rewind competed for the Village Pipol Choice Awards against notable star-studded films like A Very Good Girl, Firefly, Here Comes the Groom, Becky and Badette, and Shake, Rattle & Roll Extreme.

Meanwhile, the Village Pipol Choice Awards crowned Marian Rivera as Movie Actress of the Year for her performance in Rewind. She graced the Awards night with her presence, accepting her award.
