What “tea” is on when?

Inhale, exhale. Be one with nature as the aroma of the leaves carry you to inner peace. Calm and green with every sip. But you know, aside from being a good tool in medication, tea is also handy at different times and situations.

Generally, we know that it has a lot of health benefits when consumed regularly. But what exactly and when do we drink them to hit those prime benefits? Let’s see what tea fits what circumstances and at what times.

What “tea” to drink when?

A help to ease coughs and cold

Even with the summer season lurking, we must not let our guards down to avoid catching coughs and colds. But chamomile, honey, and ginger tea are a few to consider when sickness occurs.

The Filipino “favorite” ginger tea, or salabat, made with the root crop itself has been in the history of the country ever since. Ginger has antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that helps ease sore throat and other symptoms of coughs and colds. Honey dried chamomile flowers on the other hand have the same properties that soothes the throat and helps strengthen the immune system.

A cup to calm a tensioned mind

A quote from a Chinese Tea Master Lu Yu says, “The effect of tea is cooling and as a beverage, it is most suitable. It is especially fitting for persons of self-restraint and inner worth.” Today’s routines make us lose our sight of inner worth and defenseless from stress and anxiety. Having a cup of something is a great way to calm ourselves. Green tea, lemon balm, and peppermint are a few drink recommendations to ease those strained mind and nerves.

Green tea is a famous drink that is rich with antioxidants and amino acids. Theanine, an amino acid that helps relieve stress, is naturally found in green tea. Following is lemon balm, a lemon-scented herb that though with still limited studies, it has been significantly successful in improving anxiety symptoms. Meanwhile, aside from giving you a fresh breath, peppermint tea is also good to relieve your muscles from tension and fatigue, and to keep your anxiety level guarded.

One for a supposed “coffee date”

It was not a secret that Matcha has somewhat been an alternative for coffee lovers. A scientifically-proven healthy drink that originated in China and Japan. Like coffee, it is bitter but rich in natural taste and also contains caffeine but has a lesser amount per serving. Meaning, it slowly increases your energy unlike the adrenaline rush we usually get when drinking coffee.

Even though drinking tea is loaded with benefits, enough rest and a healthy diet and exercise are still a way for life. Never forget that anything you consume too much can have short or long-term effects on your body. Drink responsibly!
