My TikTok Obsession With Interior Design: 3 Usernames To Know

TikTok is my usual buddy over free times or dead hours. Without a doubt, the trends within the platform are now integral part of the internet’s future. The contents are surprisingly diverse, covering anything under the sun. If you get caught over a specific topic because of the algorithm, you’re set for a spiral down! My latest obsession in the app? Interior design contents.

Now, don’t get it wrong, I don’t have my own place yet. But there’s something comforting and liberating in viewing interior design contents. It’s like daydreaming and planning your future, seeping ideas and inspirations. I bookmark a lot of these contents, thinking ‘Oh I’ll do this when I get my own place.’ It’s fun and unleashes the creativity and dreamer in you. I guess what they say is true, there really comes a time when our interests shift from toys to furniture or housewares.

Here are three usernames to get to know the sphere of interior designing contents in TikTok:

Josh and Matt

I was lured into the world of TikTok interior design contents when I saw a post from Josh and Matt. The joint account of this couple is dedicated into sharing their wonderful interior design journey for their apartment. Josh Jessup and Matt Moss create whimsical, design-conscious, and delightfully chaotic design decisions for their Melbourne home. Their mantra in design is orgasmic maximalism. Whatever strikes as interesting is automatically a go, even if it means jamming together different pieces that don’t necessarily match. The result is a home that looks like a modern Pop Art museum.

Gian donut chairs, bright and saturated paintings, tree lamp, rubber ducky statuettes—they have everything! The two also feature DIY ornaments, furniture shopping and step-by-step videos of home improvements. Josh and Matt bring a personality to design decisions that might otherwise feel overly trendy, allowing their own taste to shine in a refreshingly dynamic and authentic energy.

Jonathan Colin

If Josh and Matt is more on purchasing and integrating pieces of furniture and ornaments, Jonathan Colin is more about woodworks, customizing and constructions. As his bio says, “I create things.” The L.A.-based designer and artist shares his colorful experiments in constructing furniture and other house alterations in his account. He delivers quick, punchy behind-the-scenes clips mixed with other sweet and often hilarious musings on his various interests, including interior designs.

I’ve only been following Jonathan Colin for a few months, but with his contents I feel like I am now ready to create grid shelves, wavy coffee tables, globe lamps and many more. The fact that he has his own woodwork studio shows a lot about his dedication for these things. He also makes it look so easy to do things; he gives out safety advice and helpful tips in construction. His take on design offers a hopeful vision of the future for the next generation of designers. Aside from furniture, his artistry also shines in creating murals, clothes and other quick art crafts. What an all-rounder!
