Historical Fashion Moments of DIOR

Since 1946, Dior has gained recognition on a global scale as a French fashion label praised for its fineness and classic femininity. Dior is a pioneering brand that has dominated the fashion industry for more than 70 years, and its distinctive aesthetic has shaped the industry from its inception.

Christian Dior, who was born in January 1905, founded the fashion brand, which opened its doors at 30 Avenue Montaigne in Paris in December 1946.

On February 12th, 1947, the company’s headquarters hosted the debut of Dior’s first collection for the Spring/Summer season.

Dior’s clothes were groundbreaking, notably in the 1940s, when they introduced unique designs with rounded shoulders, a cinched waist, and a very full skirt. To the surprise of the editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar, she declares: “My dear Christian, your dresses have such a new look!”

His designs gained worldwide recognition as the “New Look.”

The New Look, which featured the best tailoring and opulent fabrics, was a huge hit and revolutionized the post-World War II fashion scene.

The first perfume, Miss Dior, was launched in December 1947.

It is one of the 20th century’s greatest fragrances. Allegedly, Christian had not yet thought of a name for his first perfume. Then he heard someone utter, “Here’s miss Dior,” when Catherine Dior, his sister, entered the couture house. Christian immediately knew that the fragrance would be called Miss Dior.

Only ten years after the House was established, Christian Dior passed away from a heart attack in 1957.

During that time, the House of Dior was already responsible for creating half of France’s exports of haute couture. The renowned design brand gave its creative leadership to 21-year-old Yves Saint Laurent. By utilizing the same materials and mostly adhering to the same designs, Saint Laurent preserved the legacy of Christian Dior. But Saint Laurent’s collections included items that were softer, lighter, and more comfortable to wear.

It’s a handbag created by the fashion house upon the request of the French President’s wife as a gift to Princess Diana. Since then, it has been photographed multiple times in the arms of Lady Diana. This handbag had no official name until it was given the perfect name: Lady Dior.

In just two years, the company sold 100,000 models, significantly increasing its leather goods revenue.

Since Christian Dior’s passing, six creative directors have made an effort to carry on his reputation and influence. All of them worked to transform the company into what it is today.
