RuPaul’s upcoming Christmas movie features the largest Drag Race cast in herstory
I am a person who is obsessed with both Christmas and RuPaul’s Drag Race. So the news that RuPaul has an upcoming Christmas movie that features 20 Drag Race alumnae gagged me.
And by obsessed, I mean I have watched all the seasons of the show for a minimum of two times. On the other hand, when it comes to Christmas, I listen to its music all year round. It’s my comfort music.
About the movie
The title, however, sounds like an acting challenge in the show, The Bitch Who Stole Christmas. I hope it’s not as “funny” as those challenges.
The film revolves around a workaholic fashion journalist (Krysta Rodriguez) who travels to a Christmas-obsessed town. She had an assignment from her editor (RuPaul) to dig up a juicy story.
While there, she finds herself entwined in a Winter Ball competition. This is populated by cutthroat housewives and mischievous folks seeking to destroy the holiday forever. The movie will premiere on VH1 on Thursday, Dec. 2.
Drag Race stars
The Drag Race superstars who will be featured in this exciting project include Ginger Minj, Brooke Lynn Hytes, Peppermint, Jan, Latrice Royale, Jaymes Mansfield, Gottmik, Morgan McMichaels, Porkchop, Chad Michaels, Heidi N Closet, Kelly Mantle, Kimora Blac, Laganja Estranja, Manila Luzon, Mayhem Miller, Pandora Boxx, Raven, Rock M. Sakura, and the only winner, Kylie Sonique Love.
Having supporting roles in the project are longtime Drag Race judges Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley, and Ross Mathews. We also have past ones such as Andy Ridings, singer Kim Petras, Charo, and Anna Maria Horsford.
VH1’s production
World of Wonder producer Randy Barbato said of the film in a press statement,
“There are 1,000 Christmas movies this year, but only one with drag queens. Christmas will never be the same!”
VH1 announced The Bitch Who Stole Christmas as part of its upcoming slate of original holiday projects. It is produced by Drag Race minds Barbato and Fenton Bailey, with behind-the-scenes help on other titles from Eva Longoria, Jamie Foxx, Nick Cannon, and Kim Fields.
