You can see beauty trends on social media. But, there are dermatologist-recommended skincare routines for a reason. The trends you see won’t be a new concept. It’s basically a take on what experts have been telling us on how to do our skincare since the beginning. According to Dra. Riza Milante, these are the things that you should not miss when doing a skincare routine.

For a simple but effective skin care routine, remember to focus on three key steps: cleansing, moisturizing, and protection.

First, cleansing.

Cleansing is hardly the most glamorous step in a skincare lineup. But, in many ways, it’s the most important one. Whether you have a four-step skincare routine or a ten-step ritual, cleansing washes away the dirt, makeup, and excess oil that resides on your face. Dra. Riza mentioned that this helps you start off with a fresh canvas.

At the start of the day, cleanse your skin to get rid of any residue from the pillowcase and to have a clean base. At the end of the day don’t forget to remove your makeup completely and cleanse the skin to get rid of the day’s build up.

Second, moisturizing.

Incorporating the right moisturizers into a skincare routine minimizes flaking and irritation. It also creates a healthy glow on your skin with or without makeup. But, you also have to know the right one that soothes and hydrates your skin in no time. Plus, you’re going to need to know about the ingredients for unbeatable moisture and soft skin.

Follow this up with a nourishing moisturizer to hydrate your skin and most importantly, protect your skin from aging and potential skin cancers by wearing and regularly reapplying sunscreen.

Third, protection.

Just as Dra. Riza mentioned, sunscreen helps a lot when it comes to aging and potential skin cancers. As Filipinos, we can’t get away from the sun. So, try to find a balance between enjoying the sun and making sure your skin remains protected.

Sunscreen protects from UVA rays, the ones that accelerate signs of aging. UVA are the longer versions of UV rays, meaning they can penetrate your skin more deeply. It affects collagen structure, transforming the normal triple helix structure, and translating to visible skin changes.

Dra. Riza Milante lists down bits of advice for those who want to start their skincare journey.

Introduce products gradually. Start one at a time to avoid potential reactions, and make it easier for you to identify and eliminate the cause.

So, why should people invest in a proper skincare routine?

Not bothering about skincare leads to clogged pores, pigmentation, acne, and wrinkles in the long run. Your skin is your body’s biggest organ. So, of course, you need to take good care of it. Even Dra. Riza supports experts’ statements about investing in proper skin care for different skin types.

Investing in skincare is essential as it promotes good health, helps you age gracefully, and boosts confidence. Maintaining healthy skin enhances your appearance and makes a positive impact on first impressions.
