The importance of voter registration

Form a functional democracy

The importance of voter registration cannot be overstated – it is of great essence already. It is the first step in exercising our rights as “eligible” citizens of a country or state. Voters are the ones to choose the next leaders – the big men steering our economy and national policies, among others. For our and our little one’s future, we need to achieve a foundation of a functional democracy.

If you aren’t aware yet, you and I should have the power to form a strong foundation for our nation’s democracy. One of the reasons is to ensure the integrity of the electoral process. It helps to prevent voter fraud, which undermines the legitimacy of an election.

Increase voter turnout

By making the registration process easy and accessible, more citizens can participate in the electoral process. This is especially important for marginalized communities, which are most vulnerable to barriers to voting. They are also among the most prone to carry the burden caused by the inefficiency of the government.

Amplify every citizens’ voices

Voter registration helps ensure that the voices of all citizens are heard in the political process. We aren’t just bound to benefits and duties but rights as well. In a true democracy, every citizen has an equal right to participate in the political process. Regardless of socioeconomic status, race, or gender, all voices must count.
