APO Hiking Society and their support for presidential aspirant Leni Robredo — talks about possible reunion
Vice President Leni Robredo really seems to be rising in the 2022 presidential elections as she captures the hearts of the masses. Certainly, these include some of the brightest and most respected celebrities who are campaigning for her.
Danny Javier is a member of the legendary group APO Hiking Society. He has openly supported Vice President Leni Robredo’s bid for the presidency this coming May election.
However, despite this admirable political stance, fans of the APO Hiking Society won’t be seeing a reunion just yet.
Indeed, the iconic musical group has produced some of the most lighthearted and beautiful songs that defined a generation. It is a trio composed of Javier, Jim Paredes, and Boboy Garovillo.
In January 2010, APO officially retired as a group. They helped shape and popularize Original Pilipino Music (OPM) for four decades.
ABS-CBN News has reported that the group’s Jim Paredes released a remark of “Sayang” to them via Messenger. This is a few minutes after he posted the announcement on his Twitter account. Only he and Garovillo will join a few sorties of Vice President Leni Robredo in April.
Jim was also asked if he and Javier have been in touch after being estranged for years due to their political beliefs. He said,
That was then. We have talked some time ago and we are OK.
Way back in 2016, Danny Javier endorsed the candidacy of then Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
Meanwhile, Jim Paredes supported Liberal Party presidential candidate Mar Roxas. Of course, as well as his running mate, then Camarines Sur 3rd district Representative Robredo.
Despite maintaining his support for the Duterte administration, Danny has often withered away from the limelight, preferring a more private life.
Boboy Garovillo also reportedly told ABS-CBN News via Messenger that he and Danny have spoken yet only through online messages.
Not possible physically. Medical impairment undergoing therapy. At best, online messages.
Jim and Boboy have been among the celebrities who openly support the Robredo-Pangilinan tandem. This is even before the start of the campaign period.
On February 27, on the official Facebook account of Danny, he revealed why he can’t join. The artist replied in a comment thread from a post by retired disc jockey Bob Magoo on Javier’s Facebook account. He was asked by a friend from New Hampshire named Jeanne McCann Davis if he’s performing again.
Can’t perform yet Jeanne. Still recuperating from several medical conditions.

He specifically mentioned congestive heart failure, COPD, or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and “now on peritoneal dialysis.”
On Sunday morning, Jim posted on his official social media accounts an old photo of the APO bowing before an audience.

Even Senator Pangilinan commented: “Reunion na!”

Consequently, he followed it up on March 1 with a collage of their separate posts for Robredo.

Both tweets have been re-shared by APO fans around the world.
Over the years after retirement as a group, Boboy and Jim had occasional performances in concerts. They continued to spread their beautiful music both here and abroad and on special shows on TV.
Their hits like “Awit ng Barkada,” “Ewan,” “Paano,” “Batang Bata Ka Pa,” among others from about more than 200 original songs have been revived by younger singers.
In recent months, several renditions of “Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo” have gone viral on social media and music streaming platforms.
It was Jim’s original composition about the 19867 EDSA People Power Revolution, a major turning point in history that toppled the Marcos dictatorship.
