Men should have their skincare routine, too.

Gals and nonbinary pals shouldn’t be the only ones to use skincare. Men should also care for their skin. Any man who has youthful and healthy-looking skin practices good skincare. However, some men do not have one since they believe that only women need these products. Even worse, some guys believe that having nice skin is only a matter of genetics.

Long story short, men should have their skincare routine, too.

In people designated male at birth, the dermis layer of their skin tends to become thicker and tougher than in people designated female at birth. This causes deeper, furrowed wrinkles from repeated muscle movement. This also revolves around testosterone making the skin more oily. That’s why picking the right skincare products shouldn’t be about gender as much as it’s about figuring out your skin type.

There are roughly four skin types:

Normal

This can tolerate a variety of different skincare products without any harsh results.

Dry

People with dry skin can be red and flaky in areas, especially when exposed to cold, winter elements. You may also have this type if you remove the natural oils from the skin by washing and/or scrubbing your body excessively. If you have this skin type, you are actually prone to getting eczema.

Sensitive

People with sensitive skin, on the other hand, react to different products in a variety of ways. If you break out in a rash or experience itchiness, redness, or burning when trying new products.

Oily

Meanwhile, people with oily skin cause your face to appear shiny or bright. You tend to break out or have issues with acne more easily if you have this skin type.

So, what should men have in their skincare routine?

Cleansing (twice a day)

A cleanser, in its simplest form, pulls away excess oil from the skin and from inside the pores. Meanwhile, it washes away sweat, dirt, grime, and any previously applied skincare products.

When you wake up in the morning, you need to flush away any oil buildup and possible bacterial accumulation that transferred from pillowcases and last night’s moisturizer.

In the evening, on the other hand, you have to flush away the day’s accumulation, including extra pollutants or sweat you picked up during the entire day.

Exfoliating (twice a week)

Skin cells turn themselves over. However, they don’t always ditch the surface of the skin when they die off. Often, they build up and form rough patches. These, then, creep into pores and cause acne. Exfoliating twice a week can ensure that dead cells disappear.

Meanwhile, healthy and bright ones stay and give the light that they deserve. In turn, you can have a radiant and youthful complexion. Regular exfoliation help turns over dark spots that the sun or acne marks leave. There are two different means of exfoliation. These include physical scrubs and chemical exfoliants.

Moisturizing

The third and last step in this basic routine involves moisturizing. Moisturizers continue to be more defensive than active, even if they nourish the skin. Laying on top of your skin, moisturizers essentially trap moisture in the layers beneath. Air contaminants, on the other hand, cause skin aging and are protected in the meantime.

Applying sunscreen

Applying sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or higher is advised before going outside. Apply sunscreen liberally to any area of the body that will be in the sun. Activate the sunscreen for fifteen minutes. Pick a sunscreen that offers broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection when making your selection.

Overall, establishing a skincare routine for men revolves around finding one that they can stick to each day. That way, men could incorporate other products that target specific skin concerns.
