Why Watch ‘Let The Right One In’ (And Why Does It Deserve Another Season)?

There’s something about horror series that keeps us hooked and brave enough to wake up all night just to binge! From the long-running American Horror Story to the spine-chilling Haunting series by Mike Flanagan, the genre has continuously rejuvenated itself. Ironically, they bestow us fascinating tales of fear right in the comfort of our homes. Among the plethora of exceptional horror series, one hidden gem stands out as proof of the genre’s ability to not only keep us up at night but keep us emotional all night. It’s no other than the latest adaptation of the novel Let the Right One In.

The vampire narrative has long been a cornerstone of the horror genre, and Let the Right One In is a staple to its expanding glut of monster films. While one might assume that maximizing its once-restrained storyline would dilute its enigmatic and intriguing nature, this series boldly embraces a different path. Surprisingly, it delivers emotional depth that surpasses mere scares.

At its core, the story revolves around Mark Kane, portrayed brilliantly by Demián Bichir, and his daughter Eleanor, brought to life by the talented Madison Taylor Baez. Their lives were never the same before a decade ago when Eleanor was transformed into a vampire. Now, she leads a secluded reality, embarking only under the cover of the night. All the while, her father tirelessly searches for the human body to drain its blood to quench Eleanor’s appetite. After a very long time, they have returned to the bustling streets of New York City, desperate to find a cure that could restore their lives to normalcy.

So why see the horror series?

At the core of this remarkable horror adaptation lies a profound exploration of emotions. Here, we veer away from the girl’s murderous rampage, as her father assumes the role of the hunter. The storyline that truly resonates centers around Mark, who selflessly tends to his daughter, afflicted with vampirism for an extended period. The series beautifully captures the overarching theme of isolation and emphasizes that kindness from others is the key to breaking free from such seclusion.

It transcends the traditional horror genre, transforming into a monster series with a compassionate soul. What sets this show apart is its ability to portray the father’s deep remorse and the profound isolation resulting from his lethal lifestyle, all while striving to protect his daughter. Aside from him constantly wrestling with his own moral values, seeing him pick up his own pieces makes the series a poignant watch. Witnessing the father’s journey towards reconciliation with his long-lost friend and reigniting a passion silenced for years is simply remarkable.

Undoubtedly, Eleanor experiences her fair share of stirring moments as well. Upon their return to the city, she gradually embraces a newfound sense of liberation. It dawns on her that she no longer needs to face the world alone. Enter Isaiah, the lonely kid residing next door, and their connection is instantaneous. Their friendship blossoms, driven by empathy and mutual need. Observing the bond between these two is truly enchanting. Isaiah embodies the innocent exuberance of a young boy eager to showcase his magic tricks. Meanwhile, Eleanor stands as the brave protector, steadfast in her commitment to safeguarding her friend’s radiant smile. Remember that “sun & sun protector” meme? They owned that one!

Why are they canceling it?

Despite its unrealized potential and the show’s continuous improvement, Showtime has made the unfortunate decision not to renew the series for a second season. This news comes in light of Showtime’s integration into the Paramount+ streaming service later this year. In response to this development, the channel released a statement confirming that the vampire show will not move forward with another season. However, considering the numerous unresolved storylines and the gripping cliffhanger that demands further exploration, we firmly believe that this show deserves another chance. Allow us to present our reasons why Let the Right One In should be granted another run!

Moreover, the final episode leaves us on the edge of our seats as we witness Eleanor receiving the drug. With no perceptible side effects apparent in those closing moments, our curiosity only intensifies. There is much to expect and explore, especially the effects, or lack thereof, that the drug may have on Eleanor.

While the likelihood of Mark’s pursuit of achieving its intended outcome may appear slim, the fascinating aspect of it lies in the potential for the lore to expand and evolve further if given the necessary time.
