Regine Velasquez-Alcasid birthday concert is her most intimate yet

Regine Velasquez-Alcasid spent her birthday in the best possible way. This time she used her God-given talent to give back to Bantay Bata 163, a child welfare program previously led by the late Miss Gina Lopez.

Bantay-Bata is building a children’s village in Bulacan but unfortunately all their projects, including the rehabilitation and scholarships (for the kids) have to stop because of what’s going on,” Regine said. The virtual concert raised more than P4.2 million with the Megastar, Sharon Cuneta, donating P1M. It could have been one of the most-watched live-streaming concerts by a single performer.

This historic, one of a kind concert did not happen in a grand concert hall nor with Hollywood-esque gowns, but was the most intimate concert yet by the Songbird. “Itong concert na to, sa ating dalawa lang. Ikaw at ako, kung san ka man naroon,” Regine said. Yes, live music streams have become commonplace, but this was a full-scale concert and the bonus was it’s for a cause. This shows her generosity and big heart that’s why she’s well-loved by most Filipinos and has inspired a lot.

Regine with Lea

According to Regine, it was planned to happen sometime in June. But due to the ECQ that has prevented mass gatherings, it’s best to do a live stream concert instead. What made it more special is that the guest was Lea Salonga. The collaboration has long been awaited by their adoring fans. The Broadway Diva said that Regine has personally requested it so she couldn’t say no. “Ahhh! That was so hard! Singing with you was so hard! My God, it’s hard to sing with you. I mean that only in the best way,” Lea said after their duet.

Lea even said that their collaboration should happen in the future in the grandest of halls. “The next time you and I sing again, it should be in person with full-on glam and full-on gowns in a much bigger venue than this. I’m talking about concert halls, stadiums, and arena and it will be fun, Lea added.

At about 3 hours, the adoring fans were treated to a more subdued performance, which was a stark contrast to her powerhouse belting. She gave us a different look and was so good to the ears worthy of listening to in the comfort of our homes. Her repertoire includes new OPM hits like Pagtingin, Sino, Tagu-Taguan, and a classic medley composed by the Maestro Ryan Cayabyab to name a few.

The Songbird delivered a vocally flawless performance and the high notes are as crisp and goosebump-inducing as they are. This proves why she still remains as the Queen on her Golden birthday matched with a golden voice and a golden heart. Hail to Queen Regine! Scroll further to watch the full video.
