Ranking my favorite BTS songs, according to their impact on my life

Korean boyband Bangtan Sonyeondan or popularly known as BTS make it to Billboard Hot 100 at no. 1 on six consecutive weeks with their song BUTTER. The band released the summer anthem on May 21, 2021. Instantly, it had become one of the greatest songs of the group. It helps not only the ARMYs but to all the listeners this pandemic forgets the situation for a bit. And we all know that BTS Dynamite repeatedly plays on your head after you listened to it. But have you heard their other songs? As one of the avid supporters of BTS, I almost listened to all of their songs. And each song gave meaning to my personal life.

Ranking my favorite BTS songs, according to their impact on my life

Silver Spoon (Baepsae/Crow-tit)

Most of the ARMY wanted the group to perform this because of the cool choreography. Aside from its cool dance routine, the song itself sounds invigorating. You might find yourself bopping your head to the beat. The meaning behind the lyrics became one of the things I loved about the song. It revolves around socioeconomic inequality and injustice. This also reflects on the societal problem and a message on how one achieved their dreams compared to the privileged one.

Mic Drop

Just like my earlier entry, you will surely find yourself bopping your head to this sick bit. This song really hits hard as it calls out their haters. As they rise to their success, a lot of people still continue to criticize them. BTS wanted to show that the more hate they receive, the more trophies they gain. This means that they do not plan on focusing on negativity. Instead, they make it a challenge to do better. Have you heard the lyrics? “Did you see my bag? It’s hella trophies and it’s hella thick. What do you think about that? I bet it got my haters hella sick.”

21st Century Girl

“You worth it, you perfect. Deserve it, just work it,” this song is perfect for when you feel like focusing on your insecurities. Despite that, BTS wanted to tell us that we shall not depend on others’ opinions. You are perfect as you are. This does not mean that we should no longer aim to be better. You can work on it as long as it makes you happy without thinking about what other people think. As long as you are not hurting anyone.

2!3!

A song dedicated to all the ARMYs. This song also features the band’s struggle as K-Pop idols. BTS also wanted to tell its fans that the journey won’t be easy. Hard times will surely exist and hoping for better days will remain one of the things that we can do. The lyrics sound as if they are talking directly to their fans. They thank the fans for being there for them as they witness the hardships of being an idol. Despite the sad undertones of the song, it also feels comforting. Especially as the English translation of the lyrics says, “It’s okay, come on, when I say 1, 2, 3, forget it. Erase all the sad memories. Hold my hand and smile.”

Pied Piper

If you’re a student or a working one, this song is for you. BTS mostly tells their fans not to feel obsessed with something. Although it is okay to love and support someone, fans should not let it make a gap in their personal lives. They also point out that some students put all their time watching idol content and streaming their songs, disregarding their studies. The band also sings that it will not lead them into good. However, it might destroy them if they do not focus on what is important.

Life Goes On

Released when the world experiences a pandemic, the song simply helps us face the current difficulties. The world works differently now and it has made a lot of us feel helpless. The challenges have become too much since we find it hard to adjust and move on. However, this song tells the world that life must go on… and it’s going to be okay.

We are Bulletproof: The Eternal

Once you heard even the first beat of this song, it will really hit you hard. Just like most of their songs in this list, this song also reflects on BTS’ journey as a band. They had a rough patch and now, despite reaching success, they still go for it. Almost the whole world knows BTS and their songs are recognized in the music industry. They also used this song to appreciate and show their gratitude to their ARMY. The lyric “We are not seven with you” is like without the ARMY’s support they will never be seven, they will never be BTS.

Spring Day

Probably the saddest song I have ever heard from the band, this calls for yearning. It also talks about the longing for a friend, a loved one, or someone special in one’s heart. Some interpreted it as the unfortunate event that happened in South Korea, the sinking of the Sewol ferry. Whichever interpretation you listen to, BTS still tells us that despite missing someone, we must carry on.

Magic Shop

Another comfort song for all the sad hearts. This song talks about a door that will make you forget all your problems. Once you enter, it will become a new place with only good memories. This magic shop also represents BTS as a band. The lyric “so show me, I’ll show you” pertains to allowing you to share your struggles with them. And, the magic shop will have in exchange a happy memory, just like magic.

Answer: Love Myself

Even the title hits so hard. Answer: Love Myself has a great impact on one’s life, as it helps me love myself. I have a lot of flaws and almost hated myself for being flawed. But, as I listen to this song. I understand why I need to love myself even little by little. And, of course, the importance of accepting your flaws.

These songs had a great impact on my personal life. Yes, these BTS songs are in the Korean language. But, English translations are always available.
