Put off your shaving routine, it’s no-shave November!
Drop the razor and shaving kit! It’s officially the season to let your hair grow!
In 2009, a viral challenge sparked a wave on the Internet. We have seen men showcasing their bristly and unshorn faces on social media, with the hashtag #NoShaveNovember. It’s where you put a specific period to put off shaving their facial hair.
Until now, men all over the world have jumped on the bandwagon as the trend expands over time. But I bet, only a few know what’s really behind this online craze.
In case you’re planning to shave your beard at this moment, maybe consider these facts about No-Shave November!
IT’S NOT JUST A TREND
Just like the one-hit-wonder ice bucket challenge, No-Shave November is more than just a trend. It is actually a month-long campaign in which participants refrain from shaving and grooming their body hair.
Moreover, this campaign aims to raise awareness and funding for cancer prevention, research, and education. Just like Movember, it also serves as an avenue to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose due to vigorous treatments.
More than the campaign, No-Shave November is also an organization established by the Hill family. They decided to take this initiative in memory of Matthew Hill, a husband and a father of the family, who passed away from colon cancer in November 2007.
‘A PIECE OF CAKE’ RULES
In case you are wondering, or perhaps interested, the rules of No-Shave November are just a piece of cake. You just have to put down your razor for 30 days. Then, donate your monthly hair-maintenance expenses to the causes that help cancer patients.
Also, for those who have a strict dress code at work, even for the ones who feel grubby with every inch of facial hair, it’s completely fine! There’s no exclusion as this campaign encourages involvement of any kind. A bit of grooming and trimming are perfectly acceptable.
AN INITIATIVE FOR ALL
Let your hair down, ladies! It’s not just for men. Definitely, women can also get into the act.
It’s time to let those legs go natural and skip that waxing appointment. No-Shave November is not a man-oriented cause. Everyone can join be part, as long as you’re willing to put off your shaving routine.
Additionally, remember that whether you have bushy hair or not, you are all perfectly gorgeous. As the song says, “Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top.“
If not ready to get hairy, no worries! Supporting someone who takes part in this initiative can create a colossal impact.
WHERE TO DONATE?
Apparently, No-Shavers have helped raise over $12,000,000 for cancer awareness, research, and prevention. This organization, No-Shave November, is partnering with numerous nonprofit organizations working to end cancer.
Here in the Philippines, participants can hand out their donations to their preferred foundations. There is a myriad of options such as the Philippine Cancer Society, The Cancer Institute Foundation, Cancer Warrior Foundation, and Kythe Foundation.
For those who think that No-Shave November might cause their hair to look unkempt, just take a look at the impact it creates. The campaign has a pure intention to give hope to millions of cancer patients. Also, for this very occasional time, a bad hair day can be acceptable.
More than the initiative to donate, participants should also not forget to evoke conversation and raise cancer awareness. The number speaks for itself, as every four Filipinos die of cancer every hour.
How about you? Are you ready to forgo your shaving routines and be part of the No-Shave November?
