Percy Jackson Series: Let’s Take a Look at the Camp Half-Blood

Our long wait is finally over. After almost a decade of waiting, Camp Half-Blood will be re-opening its borders. Rick Riordan announced the start of filming of his Greek Mythology-based series Percy Jackson and the Olympians on June 2 this year. The big-screen adaptation is being produced under Disney plus.
After its tease in May 2020, Disney plus had finally lifted the mist (pun intended) and opened another mystical world to the public. We can expect a more magical and enchanting world of demigods.

Percy Jackson
The titular character of the Franchise will be portrayed by the rising child star Walker Scobell.
Scobell appeared in the Netflix movie The Adam Project. He played with big celebrities such as Ryan Reynolds, Zoe Saldana, Mark Ruffalo, and Jennifer Garner. Portraying a young character like Reynolds is a huge challenge yet Scobell seems to be a natural. He showed a playful, brave, and ambitious character which are the very trait of Percy Jackson as well.
Unlike Logan Lerman’s age during the first adaptation of Riordan’s best-selling series, Walker is a better fit for Percy’s age of 12.
A little background about our protagonist. In a nutshell, he is the son of one of the big three, Poseidon to a human woman. He lived his life as an outcast because of his ADHD and dyslexia being a demigod. His journey started when he found out that his father is the sea god and his best friend has the hooves of a goat.
The Trio
Aside from Percy, Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood are also the main characters in the movie.
Leah Sava Jeffries would be portraying Annabeth, the daughter of Athena. On the other hand, Aryan Simhadri will be the new Gover. Both actors are not new to the big screen. They already appeared in other TV series and shows.
The trio has a lot of journeys together in the book. From Grover’s undercover to protect Percy to Annabeth and Percy’s romance, there are a lot of scenes and dialogues to expect.
Other Half-Bloods
The series would not be complete without other demigods that may or may not help Percy on his adventures. Charlie Bushnell will portray Luke Castellan. He is the son of Hermes, the messenger of gods. In the novel, Luke is known as the cool kid in the camp and the leader of his father’s namesake cabin.
Moreover, Dior Goodjohn will be Clarisse La Rue, the daughter of the god of war, Ares. She is a heavy fighter with an unbending personality. She strives for winning any brawls and win any competition she belongs to. As regards her relationship with Percy, well, she is pretty much a bully.
Other casts
Riordan and Disney also named other adult casts in the series. Percy’s mother, Sally, will be played by Virginia Kul. Timm Sharp will be his abusive stepfather.
On the mythological side of the story, Jason Mantzoukas will be Mr. D or Dionysus, the god of wine and the director of Camp Half-Blood.
Another leader of the camp, Chiron, will be played by Glynn Turman. He is a centaur known as a highly-skilled trainer. Lastly, Percy’s teacher, Mrs. Dodds who is an undercover Fury, will be played by Megan Mullally.

There is no exact release date yet as the series has just started filming. Yet, the demigods are surely excited about the reopening of our Camp. Disney and Riordan are starting to clean the cabins, secure Thalia’s pine tree, and give offerings to the gods for smooth filming of the series.
