Julie Anne San Jose tributes Maria Clara role in lengthy post

Actress and singer Julie Anne San Jose on Friday paid homage to her role as Maria Clara in a lengthy post on Instagram.

The tribute came after a February 10 episode of GMA’s hit historical drama, Maria Clara At Ibarra. In the said show, her character faced its death, prompting San Jose‘s official exit from the premise.

Maria Clara At Ibarra is  a dramatization of Jose Rizal’s written piece, namely Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. It tells the story of a modern Gen Z girl who will transmigrate inside the novel and attempt to change its tragic narrative.

Moreover, San Jose portrays the leading female figure, Maria Clara. Meanwhile, headlining the program alongside her are Barbie Forteza as Klay, Dennis Trillo as Crisostomo Ibarra, and David Licauco as Fidel.

For its effective implication and appeal to the young audience, the television series has since then gained popularity.

Julie Anne San Jose pays tribute to Maria Clara

On Friday, San Jose took to Instagram to bid farewell to her beloved character. Starting the long caption for the series of pictures, she penned:

“Isang napakalaking karangalan na mapabilang sa programang #MariaClaraAtIbarra 💗 Maraming salamat sa @gmanetwork at @sparklegmaartistcenter sa tiwala at pagkakataon na mabigyang buhay ko si Maria Clara.”

Afterwards, the limitless star thanked the guidance of director Zig Dulay who assisted her in executing every scene. The actress further grabbed the opportunity to acknowledge the rest of the cast, citing huge appreciation for their talent and artistry.

In addition, San Jose expressed gratitude for the writers and the project’s whole production team, calling them her newfound friends and family. She also recognized how viewers played part in the bringing success to the show:

“Higit sa lahat, maraming salamat sa inyo. Gabi-gabi, nakakataba ng puso ang inyong pagsuporta at pagmamahal sa programang ito. Mas minahal ko ang aking larangan bilang artista sapagkat kami ay naging instrumento upang maipakita namin ang makulay at maalab nating kasaysayan.”

San Jose added that Maria Clara At Ibarra will leave a legacy to the next generation. 

“Para sa akin, isang obrang maituturing ang aming palabas. Ito ay siguradong kapupulutang aral, na maipamamana sa mga susunod pang henerasyon. Matapos man ang palabas na ito, ang kultura at kasaysayan natin ay habang buhay na nakatatak sa ating mga puso’t isipan.”

“Ito ang nagpapaalala sa ating mga karapatan bilang tao, at sa ngalan (ng) pag-ibig sa sarili, sa kapwa, at maging sa bayan– tayo ay lumalaban at patuloy na lalaban. Hanggang sa muli, ito po ang inyong Maria Clara delos Santos Y Alba, isang maalab na pagpupugay sa kasaysayan ng Pilipinas, salud! ❤️”

To date, the tribute post garnered 101,000 engagement and counting. Aside from fans, San Jose’s showbiz friends congratulated her for the breakthrough.

Maria Clara At Ibarra airs weeknights via GMA Telebabad and GMA app. It is set to conclude this February 17, to be replaced by the upcoming mega series, Mga Lihim ni Urduja.
