Five Reasons Why “Our Beloved Summer” Became My Favorite K-Drama
As an avid fan of Korean dramas, I have come across countless series that have captured my heart and left a lasting impact on me. One recent gem that I wish I could watch again for the first time and that stands out among the rest is Our Beloved Summer.
Here are the reasons why Our Beloved Summer became my favorite romance K-Drama
Simple storyline
Our Beloved Summer’s story is straightforward: two opposite people fell in love, broke up, met again, and got another chance at love. It could have ended up being cliché, but it became a worthwhile watch. And maybe that’s what hooked me; there aren’t a lot of big events, and the relationship development feels pretty slow. It was easy to watch. The process of peeling back the layers on how the characters feel and what they went through was so engaging. It’s my cup of tea.

The title of each episode
It was brilliantly written, as I noticed that every episode was named after great movies. Examples are 10 Things I Hate about You, When Harry Met Sally, 500 Days of Summer, Pride and Prejudice, etc. I find myself looking for the resemblance of the story to the movie that’s mentioned in the title of that particular episode.
The character of Choi Woo-shik
Choi Woo-shik played the male lead character, Choi Ung. Ung is a naive, introverted, and free-spirited man, or the “golden retriever” boyfriend. I love how his character was very calm and only interested in art and having a simple life. He’s in his own world, happy in his own world.
The chemistry
Kim Dami (Yeon Soo) and Choi Ung, the main leads, have great chemistry. Every moment they were together on screen was mesmerizing. The opposites attract: he’s innocent and calm, while she’s competitive and fierce. Additionally, their characters felt like real people. So often, I felt like so much of what the drama served up. The improvement and growth of their characters feel so natural as well.
Top-tier OST
Finally, to top it off, the soundtrack was remarkable. My favorite was V’s Christmas Tree. It evokes a homey and comfort-inducing atmosphere. It’s a warm blanket on a rainy day. It’s an orange and red sunset. The songs really amplified and deepened the emotions in the drama.
Watching Our Beloved Summer felt like spending a beautiful summer with your first love—hopeful, romantic, and definitely memorable. This series has all the ingredients for an unforgettable viewing experience. So, grab your popcorn, settle in, and prepare to be swept away by the magic of this drama.
There are some people who find solace in different things. For Ronalyn, she finds peace in writing and taking random pictures. As she writes, she feels a sense of release from all the negative thoughts that have been consuming her mind. Writing has become a form of therapy for her, allowing her to express herself in ways that she couldn’t otherwise; writing is a way of healing. In her photographs, she freezes the moments that bring her joy and vulnerability. It’s her way of documenting the beauty around her, giving her a sense of purpose.
