Most children look up to their parents at a young age.

That is the case for Fatima Louise Lagueras, popularly known as FANA, whose passion for singing runs in her blood.

A young aspiration

In an exclusive interview with Village Pipol, she recalls,

“My parents, they’re both singers and members of a band back then. Seeing them sing and perform in front of many people, they get applauded, which inspires me,”

However, FANA recollects how her childhood was spent just like any other normal kid, playing outside and being carefree of the future.

“[It was] beautiful and fun. I got to play with my cousins and my sister. It’s like the usual childhood experience that most people have experienced. When I was a kid, I don’t know what to aspire to or what dreams I have,” she recollects.

Yet, the 21-year-old remembers how, despite having little aspirations, she knew in her heart that she wanted to sing.

“[I] was too young to decide but to be completely honest, I knew back then that I wanted to become a singer,” she says.

A successful passion

FANA, then, started singing left and right. She trained herself and pushed her focus onto this beautiful craft.

“I am a very hands-on performer. I make sure that things are being organized before the show especially the technical side,” she explains.

She adds,

“I always practice and do vocal warm-ups. But most importantly discipline. Before, I used to attend voice workshops, which I rarely do now because of the schedule.’

FANA’s practice would soon reap its fruit in 2017 when she entered the ABS-CBN singing competition The Voice: Teens.

It was there when she felt blessed to have caught the attention of Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo, who became her coach.

After bowing down in the show’s Knockout Rounds, she tried her hand in competing once again in Idol Philippines in 2019.

She received four approvals from judges Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Vice Ganda, Moira Dela Torre, and James Reid.

FANA reached the Top 8, before bowing down in the competition’s third week.

“Joining a singing competition is never easy. I got so lucky and blessed that Coach Sarah turned her chair for me when I joined The Voice Teens and of course the recent one was Idol Philippines with 4 yes from the judges. Learnings – be humble always, sing from the heart, and do not be afraid to show your talent,” she recounts.

Never giving up

However, her singing journey did not end there. She signed an exclusive contract with Star Music and was managed by ABS-CBN Music.

She created a song called “Tawa-Tawa” under their tutelage.

In her song, FANA describes,

“I like everything about this song. It’s a song everyone can relate to. A few learnings from the song – let’s learn to laugh at the things that hurt us, accept, and move forward,”

For aspiring musicians around the country, FANA advises,

“Don’t give up! Believe in yourself. But always be humble and remind yourself that there’s always someone out there better than you.”

Finally, for her fans and supporters, FANA feels so grateful, especially for those who stayed since Day 1.

“Thank you so much for believing in me, for investing so much time and effort. I promise to share more of my music and inspire everyone. To my ever-supportive Family – I am beyond grateful,” she says.
