Exploring Albay: Must-Try Mayon Volcano Activities
Mayon Volcano is the most iconic volcano in the Philippines because of its perfect cone shape. It is located in Legazpi, Albay in the Bicol region. This volcano is one of the active volcanoes in the country; yet, behind this dangerous risk, Mt. Mayon is still a sight to behold for all tourists.
Millions of people visit Legazpi City to see the majestic volcano. It’s one of the places here in the Philippines where you will appreciate the beauty of nature. And do you know that there are ecotourism activities that you can do in Mayon Volcano Natural Park? Here are some of those.
Cagsawa Ruins Tour
Cagsawa Ruins offers the most iconic view of Mayon Volcano which is why it is one of the most-visited attractions in Legazpi. The church ruins are remnants of what was once an admired structure during the Spanish era.
It was built by the Franciscans in the 17th century, destroyed by the Dutch pirates, and was further damaged during the volcano’s eruption in 1814. It was declared a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum.
ATV Adventure
Do you want to get closer to God’s magnificent creation and drive your way up Mayon Volcano’s base? Worry not! With this 4×4 Mayon ATV, you’re now able to drive through rice fields, forests, and even volcanic rocks along a trail that will lead you to the mountain’s lava wall. It is one of the best rainy season activities as the rides are more exciting if the trails are muddy.
Zip Line
Right after your ATV adventure, spice up your Mayon experience by taking a zip line at the Mayon Black Lava Wall. It was in 2006 when the volcano erupted and formed a high pile of lava rocks. And when the lava rocks have completely solidified, locals offer an adventure where tourists will need to climb to the top of the lava rocks then descend through a zipline.
Mayon Volcano is truly a sight to witness. It’s the perfect centerpiece to the land of Albay and Bicol in general.
