Ex-TNT finalist Jex de Castro wins first prize at music festival in London
Alumnus of Tawag ng Tanghalan (TNT) Jex de Castro is next dominating the international music scene after his stint in the local spotlight.
De Castro first rose to popularity in 2017 after joining the singing competition of the noontime variety program, It’s Showtime. He finished as a finalist and re-entered Tawag ng Tanghalan two years later for its All-Star Grand Resbak segment. There, he landed as the first runner-up.
Although de Castro failed to claim the championship, he was motivated to “reintroduce” himself and reach more people. The opportunity to do so came in January this year when he received an invitation to participate in the 2023 Stars of the Albion Grand Prix.
According to an Inquirer report, the London-based competition is a gathering of musicians, dancers, and artists from across the globe. The event also allows its participants to present their cultural traditions and talent to international viewers.
At the said music festival, de Castro bested other global contenders and won the first prize.

“Last year, I asked the Lord what would be His plans for me this 2023. Isa pala ‘to sa mga plano n’ya. We did it! We got the Grand Prix 2023 title for #StarsOfTheAlbion in London!”
De Castro also thanked everyone who stayed with him throughout his journey. He especially directed his gratitude to the people who helped him fund his flight for the competition.
“People from Twitter, family, friends, my Jexters, my It’s Showtime fam! Every single one of you who made sure na makakaalis ako so I can represent the PH. Maraming, maraming salamat!”
De Castro vowed never to stop dreaming, stressing that this feat was just the beginning.
Renzo is an introvert who prefers to do things at his own pace. Unlike most writers, he reads lazily. Watching Korean dramas at night is his constant source of comfort. Although oftentimes commended for being outspoken, he speaks better through writing than with his words.
