DOT says you can finally enjoy a staycation starting October 16!
When we think of going on vacation, we often picture heading somewhere miles away. But, in reality, we can enjoy rest and recuperation and get away from it all in our very own city. Yes, a staycation is perfect for me-time during weekends.
No age restriction for staycations
We all know that a big majority of the Metro Manila population is now fully vaccinated. As a result, the government decided to loosen some of the IATF restrictions and bring down the alert status to Level 3.
In fact, the Department of Tourism announced that the government is already allowing the reopening of cinemas, theme parks, and hotels.
Last October 14, the agency said,
“Individuals of all ages may check-in for a staycation. However, to ensure the safety of all guests, only those 18 years old and above who are fully vaccinated shall be allowed to book their stay,”
However, take note that only DOT-accredited staycation hotels with safety seal certifications from the government may accommodate guests.

In addition, only 30 percent of the venue capacity is allowed for social events like weddings, parties, and family reunions.
Also, DOT allows 30 percent of fully vaccinated individuals only in tourist attractions such as museums, parks, and others. On the other hand, the outdoor venue capacity is 50 percent for individuals regardless of vaccination status.
According to DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, the resumption of staycations and expansion of capacity for restaurants serve as a “big boost” to the tourism sector.
Furthermore, this may result in the restoration of opportunities for tourism workers who lost their jobs.
Aside from that, Romulo-Puyat explained that it is also quite timely due to the upcoming holiday season.
Also, she acknowledges that family gatherings are part of our culture and an important period for leisure travels and bookings.
