Cuba’s Juan Carlos Ariosa wins Mister Global
A win for Latin America, their delegates landed on the third highest spots at the recently-concluded Mister Global competition. It was held at the Royal Park Rajapruek in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on February 11, with Juan Carlos Ariosa from Cuba taking home the top title.
Out of thirty-nine aspirants who competed in the contest, Colombia’s Oscar Guerrero placed first runner-up, while Brazil’s William Gama was proclaimed second runner-up.
Ariosa took home the Mister Photogenic Award and he inherited the Mister Global title from Vietnam’s Danh Chieu Linh who finished second in the previous competition.
Spain’s Miguel Angel Lucas was proclaimed Mister Global in the competition’s seventh edition held in March last year, also in Thailand. However, in September, the organization announced that he is relinquishing his duties as a titleholder, and then declared Danh to take over the remainder of his reign.
Lucas was in the Philippines in June last year to help confer the Mister Global Philippines title at the Mister International Philippines competition. He bestowed it upon Mark Avendaño, who was first runner-up in the national contest.
On the other hand, Avendaño received the Best National Costume award at the international competition. The Philippine bet showcased a jeepney-inspired costume at the preliminary contest held before the final competition.
Two other Asians were recognized in the global tilt. Best Charming winner South Korea’s Kim Hee Won and host delegate Setthapan Thongsuk both finished in the Top 5.
Ariosa will have a truncated reign as Mister Global. The international organization announced during the final competition that the contest’s ninth edition will be held in November later this year, also in Thailand.
Mark Avendaño is a Marketing Management Student from San Beda University. He is the fourth delegate to be sent by the Mister International Philippines organization to a global tilt.
