Mister Global 2022 concluded its 8th edition with the crowning of Juan Carlos Ariosa from Cuba. The competition was held on Saturday, February 11 at the Royal Park Rajapruek in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Besting out 38 other contestants, this includes Philippine bet Mark Avendaño.

Despite his best efforts, Mark ultimately fails to advance to the Top 15 Semifinalists. Delivering a stellar performance, nonetheless, Mark undoubtedly did our nation proud and with honor.

The 22-year-old from Biñan, Laguna is one of the reigning kings from the Mister International Philippines Organization.

His hard work wasn’t for nothing, though, as he won the award for Best in National Costume. In true Filipino style, Mark’s national costume draws influence from one of the nation’s well-known icons – the Philippine jeepney.

Known as the “King of the Road”, the jeepney is one of the Philippines’ primary modes of transportation. Quite fitting for a king like Mark, the costume is described as:

“A testament of true Filipino ingenuity – from an old war vehicle turned into a people friendly transport with flamboyant decorations showcasing resilience and hope.”

A creation of Richard Barretto, the costume features the front of a jeepney which flashes its way onstage through its array of lights. Finishing off with a Philippine flag on its hood, the jeepney then opens up bearing the country’s tourism slogan, “It’s more fun in the Philippines.”

A well-deserved in indeed!

Thank you, Mark Avendaño for bringing the beauty of our culture and representing the country with all your might. Just like you costume, we’re expecting big and flashy things from you in the future.
