BIR recognizes Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla as top celebrity taxpayers of 2022
The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) named celebrity couple Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, also known as KathNiel, among the top celebrity taxpayers of 2022.
Taxes are legally collected revenues from eligible persons or entities. They are a vital funding source to finance various essential services and infrastructure. Moreover, the progressive taxation in the 1987 Constitution dictates that the higher the capability of citizens to pay, the higher the imposed tax rates.
On Wednesday, the BIR acknowledged the top taxpaying television and movie personalities in an event held in Fisher Mall, Quezon City. The recognition awards the prominent showbiz figures who diligently filed their taxes as the government required.
The agency cited the tandem of KathNiel for their earnest compliance, which set a good example.

In a ceremony on Wednesday, Bernardo and Padilla were present to receive recognition from the BIR. The two shared a short speech during their acceptance.
Padilla quipped, “Maraming-maraming salamat po sa award na ito at maraming-maraming salamat sa dami naming binayad na tax!”
Meanwhile, Bernardo said, “Hopefully, this would inspire everybody to do our responsibility bilang Pilipino na magbayad ng tax.”
Furthermore, other top celebrity taxpayers named by BIR are anchors Mike Enriquez, Mel Tiangco, and Jessica Soho. Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo, Liza Soberano, Anne Curtis, Maja Salvador, Michael V, and Willie Reviallame also joined the list.
For her part, Curtis noted, “I think it’s so important that we lead by example to the future generations. So, let’s all support the BIR and pay everything on time.”
In the Philippines, tax evasion is a criminal offense punishable by up to PHP 10 million fine or imprisonment.
