Beauty Tip: Make Your Lipstick Last Longer with This Technique
Have you ever felt the frustration of constantly reapplying your lipstick while you’re out and about? Believe me, I’ve been there, too. That’s why when I stumbled upon this genius makeup technique from a well-known makeup artist. And, I couldn’t wait to share it with all of you!
Beauty Tip: Make Your Lipstick Last Longer with This Technique
Many lipsticks promise long-lasting wear, but not all deliver. Some even leave your lips feeling dry. It’s essential to find ones that truly live up to their claims without sacrificing comfort.
Sure, long-lasting lip products can certainly extend the wear of your lipstick. Furthermore, Melissa Murdick, a celebrity makeup artist from Los Angeles, once shared a technique to further make your lipstick last longer.
Firstly, it’s important to have moisturized lips before applying, as applying your lip product also works with a good base.
Make sure that your lips are exfoliated to avoid flaking, and moisturized so your lipstick can feel comfortable on your lips when applied. Furthermore, it’s also not advisable to apply lipstick if you have dry lips as it can worsen your lips’ condition.
You can refer to how to care for your lips from my previous beauty tip article. This tip came from me as I also believe in the power of a moisturized lip. However, let’s also delve into the long-lasting lipstick tips shared by our celebrity makeup artist.
According to Murdick‘s TikTok video, it’s crucial to create a ‘barrier’ to keep your lip color in place.
You can achieve this by applying concealer matching your skin tone onto your lips, forming the ‘barrier.’ This technique also serves as a primer, enhancing your lipstick’s color.
Murdick also recommended using a small brush to apply a small amount of concealer onto the edges of your lips. Afterward, blend it onto the skin near the lips to create a seamless base.
Next, similar to other makeup techniques, you’ll want to press a small amount of powder over the concealed lip edges using your favorite makeup sponge. Doing this helps set your ‘barrier’ firmly in place.
The next thing you’ll do is to use your favorite lip liner-lipstick combination.
You can use any of your favorite lip combinations as you can do the same steps, anyway. Furthermore, after creating the ‘barrier,’ you’ll need to line your entire lips with your favorite lip liner.
As highlighted by Murdick, you will need to line your whole lips, and not just the edge. Doing this creates a tint-like layer that enhances the longevity of your lipstick.
Lastly, apply the lipstick in the same shade as your lip liner over the lip liner layer.
In the last step, apply a lipstick matching your lip liner over the lip liner layer. This technique enhances the longevity of your lipstick. Even as the top layer wears off, the lip liner layer retains its vibrant color with minimal smudging.
As observed, Murdick’s lipstick remains intact even during workouts and hydration breaks. While the center may slightly fade, the overall lip color still stays longer on her lips — doing her technique.
After trying Murdick’s technique from her video, I can confirm its effectiveness. While the center of my lip color faded slightly, overall, the color remained on my lips. I’m impressed and can vouch for this makeup technique!
