Why is crying good for the soul?

Crying is our natural way of response whenever we feel various emotions. Sometimes, it is a healthy response whenever we feel frustrated, sad, or even in an extreme joy. Even with physical pain, we usually find ourselves crying just to ease our sudden emotions.

Crying is therapeutic not just to our soul, but even to our body in general.

It helps us process things and teaches us in terms of handling difficult situations and experiences. By way of crying, we gain peace and clarity with whatever emotion we may feel at present. To some, crying gives them a clear vision and resolution to one’s emotion. As to how they would resolve and handle things driven by their feelings.

Emotion is indeed a complex thing to control most especially if you are not that patient. It can either drive us to things we may regret later on. Through crying, it somewhat improves our self-awareness to things. It helps us identify and process our strengths and weaknesses. In a deeper view, it also provides us knowledge as to what possible things trigger us and how we cope up with them in the future.

In a more wider outlook, it helps us build wiser social connection. I know for a fact that almost all of us has an experience crying in front of your friend, loved ones or even your peers. Right? And eventually after that, we sometimes are unaware that we already have this closer, deeper, and genuine connection with that person. It may have caused you such embarrassment, but look at the brighter side! It turned out so good, dude! Lol.

Medically speaking, crying has a lot of benefit to oneself. Whenever we cry, we tend to release oxytocin and endorphins. These are chemicals known to ease both our physical and emotional pain. That is why sometimes after crying, we feel more relaxed and better. It also gives us calmness and an improved mood.

More so, we also release cortisol when we cry. It is a stress-hormone which usually builds up tension and anxiety within our body. It helps us release stress and eventually gives us the sense of genuine relief and comfort afterwards. Various studies also shows how beneficial crying is to one’s well-being.

In general, crying makes us a human. It supports to the fact that as human, we are entitled with our own emotions and feelings. Thus, it helps us acknowledge weakness and uncertainties. So never hesitate to shed tears if you feel the need to.

Dealing with one’s emotion is hard most especially if you are that strong person to others. However, we should always remember that crying does not and will never make us less strong as we think. Crying is never a sign of weakness! So, if you need to cry and let those emotions out, please do so! You’ll never know how relieving it is unless your try.
