VP/Xclusives | Cheska Cabrera and Patrick Rocamora stepping out for new series “My Favorite Liar”
Have you ever thought about how a butterfly becomes a butterfly? It begins as a caterpillar, safe in its familiar world. But to truly grow, it must leave that comfort behind and enter a new journey—a stage of uncertainty, change, and challenge. From that process, it transforms into something different but beautiful.
In the same way, Cheska Cabrera and VXON member Patrick Rocamora, the lead stars of the upcoming series My Favorite Liar, stepped beyond their comfort zones, embracing challenges that allowed them to transform and emerge into the beauty of growth and artistry.
Cornerstone Entertainment’s vertical series pairs Patrick, the main dancer from VXON, and digital superstar Cheska Cabrera, exploring the art of transitioning from animosity to unexpected romance. Kobe Francisco and Angela Balagtas join the cast, adding depth and kilig moments to the story.
“My Favorite Liar” the new awaited series
My Favorite Liar, a light romantic-comedy series, marks a milestone for both Patrick and Cheska. It is not only their first acting series together but also the first time they will work on a project alongside co-stars Kobe Francisco and Angela Balagtas.
For Patrick, stepping into acting was completely new. He admitted feeling out of his element when performing without his VXON groupmates. “I am really not used to it. Lagi ko sinasabi na sobrang naninibago ako kapag may gagawin ako outside my group kasi sanay ako na sila yung kasama ko sa lahat,” he said, reflecting on the challenge of entering a space where he could no longer rely on familiar support. Despite the nerves, he considered the series a blessing. “Fan ako ng mga Star Cinema films especially mga romcom films. Itong first acting project ko blessing siya kasi light yung story and romcom,” he shared, expressing excitement at finally pursuing acting.
Patrick also acknowledged the effort required beyond acting itself, recognizing the teamwork that goes into making a show shine. “Now I realized it takes a lot of effort not just sa artists, pati sa mga production staff para maging maganda ang isang show,” he noted, showing appreciation for the collaborative process behind the scenes.
Cheska, who has been in front of the camera since childhood, found acting a thrilling transition. Unlike content creation, acting put her in a larger environment with a full production team. “I’m portraying somebody else, a character—Gabbie. I get to walk in her shoes, think the way she does, and feel all her emotions,” she explained, emphasizing the excitement of inhabiting a new persona and exploring a character’s perspective.
Cheska and Patrick chemistry in action
Though both are under the same management, Patrick and Cheska weren’t close at first. Their first meeting happened during a chemistry test, followed by several acting workshops that gradually built their comfort and understanding. By the time filming began, Patrick was impressed by Cheska’s preparedness and quick adaptation to the set. “Hindi kami close at first. First time namin nagkita sa chemistry test, then we did several acting workshops for this project. Pero nung nasa set na siya, nasurprise ako kasi ready siya. Mukha lang siyang maarte magsalita pero simple lang siya na tao—tapos mabilis siya kumilos,” he said, praising her composure and efficiency in every scenes.
Cheska reflected on how the workshops and shared management background helped strengthen their on-screen chemistry. “Pareho kami ng management ni Patrick, and we see each other as workshops so we’re really very comfortable with each other’s company. And for the unexpected moment—hintayin niyo na lang sa series, kasi pati ako nagulat eh,” she teased, hinting at surprises viewers can look forward to. She also described the series as a feel-good romcom, perfect for relatable and enjoyable viewing. “It really is a romcom series, at sana po makarelate talaga yung audience sa experiences ng characters. Since hindi naman mahaba per episode, feeling ko ang saya niya i-binge watch. I think people will really enjoy.”
The Art of Becoming
Cheska and Patrick are different in experience but alike in their willingness to take risks and embrace growth. Cheska’s years as a content creator and commercial model gave her confidence and skills to connect with audiences, which translated smoothly into acting. “Creating content taught me how to connect with people, which I think really translated into the acting side too,” she said, highlighting how her past experience supported her performance.
Patrick, on the other hand, is used to performing with VXON but found solo acting opportunities both challenging and rewarding. “Aside sa dancing, acting talaga yung gusto ko i-pursue… It inspires me na hindi mag stop sa learning kasi ang dami pa pwedeng matutunan lalo na kung gusto mo maging magaling sa craft na yun,” he shared, showing a commitment to growth and mastering a new craft.
Both Actors emphasized that true artistry comes from embracing challenges and learning from the people and processes around them.
The Love to Them
Patrick expressed how the support of Vixies has been in a vital part of his new journey. “Sa lahat ng Vixies—nako po! Sigurado ako, magrereact kayo kapag napanood niyo na ito, haha. Alam ko marami sa inyo na baka ayaw pa rin akong ipartner sa iba, pero sana katulad ng pagsuporta niyo sa amin bilang VXON, suportahan niyo rin ako at kami sa mga projects na ganito. Sana mahalin niyo rin si Pogs at si Gabbi, the characters we brought to life in My Favorite Liar.”
Cheska also expressed her gratitude toward her loyal followers. “I’m sooo excited to share this new chapter with you. Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng sumusuporta at naniniwala sa akin, at sa amin ni Patrick. This journey is really special to both of us.”
Cheska and Patrick invite their fans and viewers to watch their new series. Chesca shares, “I’m inviting everyone to please support our new series My Favorite Liar under Cornerstone Entertainment. It’s a light romcom, and I hope you can relate to it. I can’t wait for you to meet Gabbie and Pogs.”
The series is expected to be available on BeetzeePLAY, a streaming platform celebrating the evolving landscape of Filipino storytelling.
Cheska and Patrick remind us that stepping out of our comfort zone can be intimidating, even frightening.
