VP Tech | Redmi 13: Reliable and Consistent

After the success of the Redmi Note 13, the Xiaomi sub-brand launched the Redmi 13 providing their consumers with a budget-oriented option. Along with an affordable price, it comes with promising features catered to serve as a versatile phone fit for everyone.

A few months after its release, can the Redmi 13 still become a viable option in the present? Curious? Join us as we dive into another edition of VP Tech.

Design and Build

The Redmi 13 has three colorways: Midnight Black, Ocean Blue, Pearl Pink, and Sandy Gold. All variants sport a stylish glass back design which looks sleek especially when the lights hit it. We’d like to note that this design might be prone to fingerprints, but it’s easily wipeable and we know you’ll be using a case anyway.

While it’s a tall phone, its ergonomics felt comfortable and usable upon testing. Additionally, the Redmi 13 also doesn’t feel heavy to hold at 205g.

Moreover, it also comes with an IP53 rating for water and dust resistance. Ergo, while it technically has protection against water and dust, you must not let it submerge in water for prolonged periods.

Display

The Redmi 13 sports a 6.79” FHD+ LCD display that can reach a 90Hz refresh rate. Its display also comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass for an added layer of protection.

We must admit that it may not be the brightest display in the market, but it gets the job done when you need it. The default display setting may also be a bit pale to our liking, so we opted for the “Saturated” setting, which significantly improves the colors of its display.

To protect your eyes, the Redmi 13 also has TÜV Rheinland low blue light and flicker-free certifications to ensure a healthier viewing experience.

Speaking of viewing experience, you can expect a satisfying viewing experience given the phone’s large display. While you may need to turn up the brightness quite a bit to reach its potential, its display offers an immersive experience overall.

Camera

On its cameras, the Redmi 13 sports a 108MP main camera, a 2MP macro camera, and a 13MP front-facing camera. These cameras perform well especially under great lighting conditions even in 3x zoom. For an entry-level phone, it captures detailed and well-processed photos without trouble.

While photos might start to look a bit grainy, photos taken under low light conditions still look decent and usable. For its price, the Redmi 13 gives its users well-contrasted photos straight from its cameras.

Photos taken using 3x zoom even look great, especially in well-lit areas. Photos show great detail and sharpness even when zoomed which we like.

Overall, the cameras on the Redmi 13 perform well, especially for its price. It’s capable of taking everyday shots with the option to switch to a 108MP resolution when you need it.

Performance and Storage

As for its performance, the Redmi 13 sports a MediaTek Helio G91 – Ultra that serves as its main power source. It also comes in three storage variants you can choose from: 6GB +128GB, 8GB + 128GB, and 8GB RAM + 265GB.

We recommend opting for the larger storage variant for better optimization, but the 6GB variant works just fine. We’d also like to note that the phone comes with expandable storage via a Micro SD card for up to 1TB of storage.

Based on our testing, the phone can handle most essential apps that you’ll use every day. We encountered a slight lag whenever we tried to multitask, but it pushed through quickly and performed smoothly.

Moreover, you’ll have no trouble playing light games like Mobile Legends on this phone. Our testing showed that it can run lighter titles smoothly even during prolonged gaming sessions. On the other hand, while you can run heavier titles on this phone, we suggest playing them at their lowest to medium settings for an optimal experience.

Battery

As for its batteries, the Redmi 13 boasts a 5,030mAh battery that can last you a whole day. Especially for moderate users, this phone has an extensive battery life that doesn’t easily budge.

Moreover, the Redmi 13 also supports 33W fast charging. Based on our testing, this 33W charging can charge the phone from 0% to 100% in an hour or more depending on the charging situation.

Overall, the batteries on the Redmi 13 were decent, especially for the price it comes with. It’s dependable with fast charging capabilities perfect for an on-the-go user.

Overall Thoughts

Overall, the Redmi 13 still carries its weight months after its release. It still delivers optimal performance for the average user looking for a decent phone. We must say that it’s the ideal phone for those people who only want something that works.

For PHP 7,999, the Redmi 13 carries a decent camera, a reliable battery, and a smooth performance. While its displays might be a hit or miss depending on your preference, it offers great value for people looking for a phone that won’t break the bank.
