Anti-inflammatory

Inflamed skin is one of the skin problems that tag along with acne. One of the common signs of inflamed skin is skin redness. The culprit for skin redness? None other than inflammatory acne. It is best to use gentle and non-irritating products to decrease and mellow down the redness and inflammation. Search and try anti-inflammatory products that contain any of these ingredients:

  • Salicylic Acid
  • Aloe Vera
  • Tea Tree Oil
  • Centella asiatica or Cica

Anti-bacterial

Aside from inflamed skin, bacteria is another issue that needs to be tackled. Acne formation is caused by bacteria brought by oil and dirt. Washing our skin with soap and water is not guaranteed to free bacteria and microbe build-up, since bacteria don’t just lie on the surface, What’s needed are ingredients that effectively cleanses at a microscopic level and inhibits bacteria. Anti-bacterial ingredients that are perfect for acne are as follows:

Dark spot lightening

Acne scars are what come next once inflammation is gone. Pigment scars and physical scars are two types of acne scars. Pigment scars AKA dark spots are traces or marks left by acne. A recommended method to visibly lighten and brighten pigment scars is to select ingredients that deliver this effect. These includes:

  • Niacinamide
  • Vitamin C
  • Kojic Acid
  • Tranexamic Acid
  • Hydroquinone

Exfoliating

Clogged pores complete the quadrants of acne issues. Other than anti-bacterial ingredients, a proven way to resolve clogged pores is through exfoliating. Exfoliating is a method that penetrates deep-seated oil, dirt, and bacteria trapped in our pores. Also, exfoliating is essential in sloughing off dead skin cells. Regular exfoliation prevents the recurrence of acne and promotes skin clarity.

An example of an exfoliant is Alpha Hydroxyl Acid or AHA. AHA helps in getting rid of dead skin cells, and excess oil prevents bacterial overgrowth and unclogs pores. This makes AHA ideal for reducing breakouts.
