Pregnancy-Safe Skincare Routine Must-Haves
Recently, I’ve been seeing both high school and college friends announcing their pregnancies on different social media accounts. And, all I can say is that I’m so happy and proud of them. However, some of my friends have recently dropped their skincare routines in fear that they won’t be pregnancy-safe. But, if there’s any time to invest in yourself, it’s during pregnancy. I mean, you have such a huge responsibility. So, it’s an important time to pamper yourself.
Before we go in on a routine, there is a myth that there are thousands of ingredients that pregnant women should cut out.
However, experts actually pointed out that the list of ingredients they shouldn’t use isn’t really that long. The main ones on that list should include retinoids, high-dose salicylic acid, hydroquinone, phthalates, formaldehyde, and chemical sunscreens. And, anything else you choose to cut from your routine during pregnancy is completely up to you. Aside from that, experts also noted that it’s okay to take a little break from anti-aging products while pregnant.
Pregnancy-Safe Skincare Routine Must-Haves
Gentle Skin Cleanser
A gentle and non-irritating cleanser should be a must-have for pregnancy-safe skincare. Cetaphil is about as gentle and all-purpose as it gets for skin cleansers. You can use it no matter what type of skin you have. You may have oily and acne-prone skin or dry and irritated, Cetaphil will help with washing away dirt, oil, and makeup without leaving any kind of residue.
Vitamin C Serum
Although Vitamin C serums aren’t a necessity for any skincare routine, you can use them to look to even out skin tone and boost your skin’s glow. You can use it after cleansing. Meanwhile, Vitamin C serums support skin’s collagen health. This reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Derma E’s Vitamin C Concentrated Serum has a formulation that includes Hyaluronic Acid to keep the face moisturized. You can also use Innisfree’s Green Tea Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum.
Moisturizer
Dry skin always needs extra help from moisturizers, and water-based gels help lock in the maximum amount of moisture. Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Face Moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid feels like putting jelly on your face. You can also use Luxe Organix’s Aloe Vera Soothing Gel or Ever Organics’ Papaya Serum Soothing Gel. They are both an inexpensive dupe for Neutrogena and can elicit the same effects.
Sunscreen
Sunscreen is always a skincare must-have. Avoid chemical sunscreens as it isn’t pregnancy-safe. It’s important when going outdoors, especially when you’re pregnant since your skin is extra sensitive. It’s not just for the summer months to avoid sunburn and damage. However, it should honestly be a year-round preventative health habit. Cetaphil Sun SPF50+ Gel, Luxe Organix Aqua Daily Sunscreen, and Belo SunExpert are the best in my opinion since it remains gentle to the skin and actually budget-friendly.
