Controversies of a supposed political bandwagon surround the victory of Anne Patricia Lorenzo, the newly proclaimed grand winner of the Miss Q&A pageant.

On Saturday, the variety program It’s Showtime held Kweenfinity War, the final curtain for the third season of Miss Q&A. The segment challenges queer individuals with enough guts and wit to win the crown.

Besting other contestants vying to triumph, Lorenzo stood out and was named the new Miss Q&A Kween of the Multibeks. During the final round, she answered the question: “Naniniwala ka bang may taong tanga?”

Lorenzo bagged a PHP 500,000 prize in cash, a beauty package amounting to PHP 100,000, and a PHP 450,000 worth of business package. Below is her winning response:

“I believe, Oo. Naniniwala akong may taong tanga. Bakit? Dahil sinasadya niyang magpakatanga kahit lahat tayo ay may kakayahang malaman kung ano ang tama at mali. Nilikha tayong matalino pero choice nating magpakatanga.”

Lorenzo also emphasized that everyone has the option to be wise, especially in situations that call for it. Unfortunately, others willingly choose to be ignorant. She further expounded on her response by relating to the country’s political climate,

“Tulad na lamang sa pagpili ng mga pinuno ng ating bayan. Nagiging tanga tayo dahil alam naman natin kung sino ang may kredibilidad at kakayahan. Pero, nagpapadala tayo sa matatamis na salita. At sadya, ang pagkakataon, may (mga) taong tanga.”

Lorenzo’s winning answer went viral on social media, with many looking highly at how she delivered. However, controversy quickly followed this victory after allegations that she only twisted her ideology to earn the judges’ favor. Some prefer to call it a political bandwagon.

Because Lorenzo implied the ignorance of Filipinos in choosing the nation’s leaders, some netizens found this disposition very convenient. Elaborately, this contradicts her conviction last national elections, as revealed by the stance she promoted on her social media.

Lorenzo joined Miss International Queen Philippines earlier this year. Meanwhile, Miss Q&A season 1 winner Juliana Segovia, also infamous for her political views, made headlines after placing a bet on her at that time. Segovia captioned “pula ang mananalo” in a post, only to delete it after Lorenzo ended up as the first runner-up.

On the other hand, the newly named Miss Q&A Kween of the Multibeks is yet to comment on the issue. Regardless of the issue, congratulations to you, Anne!
