James Reid, Nadine Lustre confirm breakup — and it’s shocking and painful
Kapamilya love team James Reid and Nadine Lustre confirmed on Monday that they had broken up following bunches of breakup rumors spreading on social media sites — and fans couldn’t help but also feel the pain.
The former couple released a joint statement aired in the January 20 episode of ABS-CBN’s Tonight With Boy Abunda live confirming their separation.
“It’s true that we have split up but not for all the reasons that [are] being spread on the tabloids and social media but because after quiet and mature conversations, we decided to focus on ourselves not only for our careers but more for our personal growth as we are still young and we want to achieve as much as we can,” the statement read.
“We agreed that going separate ways was best for both of us. We are in good terms and are still really good friends… will continue to work with each other especially when it comes to music,” it added. In fact, the long-time partner on-cam would have celebrated their 4th anniversary on February 11.
Breakup rumors
The couple’s relationship had been the subject lately all over the social media following lots of rumor since the beginning of 2020. This includes reports that the actress allegedly left their shared home in Quezon City. However, their fans had immediately defended their idols with receipts or photos contradicting the rumor that they had already broken up.
Despite the split, Nadine and James still thanked their fans for their undying support ever since the two had been a long-time duo on-cam. “We shall forever be grateful to them for their love and understanding. Thank you,” they said.
In 2014, the loveteam had their first major showbiz career through the big-screen romcom Diary ng Panget. This made them become one of the biggest love teams during that time. Reid and Lustre brought their on-screen sweetness into real life in 2016 as they confirmed being officially a couple right after their joint concert at the Araneta Coliseum.
