INSTAGRAM RAID: Style funky and patterned pants a la Shine Pascual

Even before the pandemic, whenever I’d go shopping for new outfits, I would instantly think of the bottoms, pants, or trousers that I have. I would plot my entire outfit around the pants that I wanted to wear. Then, I’d choose the tops that would look better with it and the shoes that would complete the whole look. Of course, I wouldn’t have thought of this alone. I would go on Pinterest dives and look for inspiration. Or, I’d go to Instagram and instantly look up Shine Pascual. Every time I’d see her photos on Instagram, I would instantly save them to replicate for later. And, like the anthropologist that I am, I’ve assembled a collection of her Instagram photos that perfectly encapsulates this thought.

Pinstripe
An academia-centered look is always the way to go when it comes to pinstripe pants. Since it has some sort of pattern, she balanced the outfit with a plain white collared top and a dark blue sweater vest. Then, she completed the look with a pair of boots and a chained purse. This was the outfit that made me start saving her outfits. Of course, as I’ve said, I later replicated it on my own but with a different color scheme.
Flared Denim
For a long time now, Gen Z kids have been trying to cancel skinny jeans. Due to that, a lot of them have started wearing different kinds of jeans. Straight leg, baggy, and flared became three of the next It denim pick for the forward set. Shine styles her flared denim with a cyan-colored cardigan and a pair of sneakers, sticking to a cerulean color palette for this soft urban look.
Grid
Shine mixes urban with softie, and a little bit of edge together in this lavender-black-violet number. She matched the grid-patterned viewers with a lavender top and an oversized leather blazer. She completed the look with a similar-hued dangling floral earring and a headband.
Brown
Recently, brown seems to be everywhere – especially on Pinterest and Instagram. Everyone has started layering different shades of brown pieces together. In this look, Shine had a cinnamon cropped top and a russet pair of pants. She layered it underneath a beige outwear and completed it with pecan-colored sunglasses.
Fire
Nothing looks better than a black-and-white look. The pair of pants are already a statement. And, Shine toned it down with a long-sleeved black top, pair of black boots, and a black bag. She had little braids framing her face, adding more edge to her look.
Lavender Corduroy
I’m a little bit biased and loved this outfit because it’s monochrome and color-coordinated. And, it’s because it’s lavender. This color has always looked feminine, graceful, and elegant. It also has an association with refined and wealthy women. However, the lavender corduroy perfectly juxtaposes the color with the silhouette and texture. Shine plotted the outfit around the color, pairing the cropped top with the pants, and white sneakers.
Abstract Faces
Again, another monochromatic look. Shine wore a white cardigan with fur trimmings that made her look more luxurious, and fancy. Then, she used a pair of pants with abstract faces, complementing the decadent look. She also finished the look with a pair of white sneakers.
And, what seems to be a Shine Pascual favorite – Zebra Print
The key to styling a zebra printed pair of pants a la Shine Pascual would include picking a solid color and incorporating it as a dominant shade in the whole outfit. Here, she used a black corset, a pair of boots, and a purse that completed the look.
Her outfit wearing a green zebra print also had the same thought. She used different shades of green to incorporate as a top, outerwear, and purse while she used a pair of white Converse to pull it all together.
Shine also used the same concept with the pink zebra print. She had a white top that matched her white socks while her loafers (which look absolutely divine, I want one) matched the black in her pants.
