Honor Magic 4 Pro: Is it worth it?
Honor Magic 4 Pro, a high-end flagship of Honor, has been available in the global market for some months now. And unlike Huawei Devices, Honor phones bring Google Support. This makes the phone a strong competitor even in the Western Market!
It is a camera-centric flagship, and at first glance, we can really that it is. But apart from that, is it really a flagship phone worthy of consideration? Does Honor Magic 4 Pro have enough magic to compete alongside other flagships? Let us find out!
Build and Design
On the back of the phone, there are three cameras and various sensors, all in one circular-design module. The Honor calls it ‘The Eye of Muse’. Its rear panel which is made up of glass has a reflective mirror-like finish, making it a fingerprint magnet. But a simple case would do the job! So this thing, you might want to consider.
The glass back curves into the narrow frame, making it feel thin in the hand. Despite that, it weighs 209 grams. Very much premium in touch, if I must say.
More to that, Honor Magic 4 Pro has an IP68 rating against water and dust. Thus, it can survive a 1.5 m submersion in water for 30 minutes. This adds to the overall premium and pro feels this phone offers.
This also has a stereo speaker setup for a more immersive listening and media consumption experience. It comes in 5 different colors – Black, White, Cyan, Gold, and Orange.
Display
This phone rocks a solid 6.81 inches LTPO OLED display with a QHD Resolution. This also has HDR10+ support and has the ability to enhance SDR content into HDR in certain apps like Netflix and YouTube.
It also has an adaptive 120 Hertz screen refresh rate, something only the flagships of Apple and Samsung have, among others. With the LTPO Technology, the screen could go as high as 120 Hertz and could go down to 1 Hertz when idling to save the battery.
The brightness of this phone is also competitive. Upon using the manual slider, we can get 550 nits of maximum brightness. But when in auto mode, it boosts up to 960 nits. This feature lets us use our phones even in broad daylight at ease and without worries.
The display also features a pill-shaped cutout that houses the 12MP selfie camera and the 3D TOF Sensor. This sensor is responsible for the phone’s feature of 3D Face Unlock, this is much more secure than what we find in other competitors. Adding to that sense of security is an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint reader. It is rare for phones to find both features together, so well done there, Honor!
Like its glass back, the screen is also curved. Curved screens are not for everyone, me included. Maybe it is something for you to keep in mind though.
Storage and Performance
This phone does not support an SD card slot, but do we really need one? No. Because Honor Magic 4 Pro can come with 256GB with 8GB of RAM. The other option is the 256GB or 512GB partnered with 12GB of RAM. Storage-wise, this phone really has its magic!
Moving on to the interface, this runs on Honor’s Magic UI6 based on Android 12. And found at the heart of this phone is the current flagship chipset. It is powered by Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. This will provide a smooth and excellent experience for its users. With its powerful chipset, whether in navigating the interface, multitasking, or gaming, this phone could handle it without any hiccups.
Battery and Charging Experience
Just like the last year’s model, this phone rocks a 4600 mAh of battery capacity. It is one of the downsides of this phone, to be honest. But it is compensated with its fast charging feature!
Right out of the box, the phone comes with a huge 100W adapter. Giving a magnificent result of charging it from 0 to 100% within just half an hour!
But wait, there is more! The phone also supports 100W fast wireless charging! Tho the charging pad is sold separately. Within 30 minutes, it went up from 0 to 78% wirelessly. Truly, it works like a magic!
More to that, this phone also supports Reverse Charging (5W) and also supports Reverse Wireless Charging, in case of emergencies.
Cameras
On the back, it has a 50MP Main Wide Camera and a 64MP (3.5x) Telephoto Lens. These both support Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) giving us a quality video experience. Last is the 50MP Ultrawide Camera that can take Macro shots.
Aside from that, there are few other sensors. It includes a DTOF Sensor that provides depth mapping and laser autofocus in low light. Also, it has an anti-flicker sensor useful for video recording, and a color spectrum sensor.
Moving on to the front of the phone, the 12MP selfie camera is an ultrawide one. Having that, it crops its photos to provide three different zoom levels. This also features an HDR, giving us a good experience upon taking selfies and recording videos.
The Honor Magic 4 Pro does not come cheap though. But with its high-end features, its price point of around 37,000 Pesos is worth it. Truly, it has its own magic for its price. An awesome phone indeed.
