VP/Xclusives | Glaiza de Castro and the Power of Becoming

Fearless, versatile, and endlessly curious.

These are the three qualities that sum up everything Glaiza de Castro stands for.

Years in the industry don’t always translate to range. For some, experience narrows the choices; for others, it defines a lane they rarely step out of. But for Glaiza, it worked differently. It didn’t confine her—it expanded her.

From bringing a wide range of characters across different genres to life on screen, to immersing herself in music that moves her, Glaiza exists in a space where creativity knows no boundaries.

Behind her is an artist who continues to move forward—not by changing who she is, but by allowing more of herself to unfold.

“I’m not boxed in an image.”

Versatility

And this openness is reflected in the stories she continues to take on.

In her recent film, I Fell, It’s Fine, Glaiza delves into a Filipino Girls Love (GL) romance-drama directed by Director Sigrid Bernardo. Here, she steps into the role of Anne, a woman navigating love, loss, and self-discovery.

But versatility, in her case, is not only seen in the characters she portrays. It also lies in the perspectives she carries long after the role is done.

Through Anne’s story, Glaiza gained a deeper appreciation of the complexities of relationships—understanding that love is not always the sole foundation of partnership.

“Love has its ebbs and flows, and as romantic as it may seem, it’s not the main focus in a relationship.”

– Glaiza De Castro

The film also opened up a wider perspective on why stories like this matter in the first place.

For her, acting has always extended beyond performance—it is also about the conversations a film can spark long after the credits roll.

“I hope this film will encourage the Filipino audience to support genres like these because Philippine cinema has so much potential and deserves recognition on a global scale.”

– Glaiza De Castro

Glaiza points out that acting is not simply about entertainment. It is about creating space for dialogue and inviting audiences to understand experiences different from their own perspectives.

She believes that cinema can be a powerful tool for empathy, reminding viewers that every individual, regardless of gender or identity, deserves respect both on and off screen.

Every Role, Fully Hers

For Glaiza, acting has never been about simply delivering lines or fitting into a character’s outline. It is a process of immersion—of understanding and carrying a role beyond what is written on the page.

In a season marked by constant movement between projects such as Stars on the Floor, Sang’gre, and her recent film I Fell, It’s Fine she was also navigating something far more personal at home—the declining health of her father, which eventually led to his passing.

It was a period where work continued, but life carried a heavier weight behind it.

Known for being family-centered, Glaiza has always placed her family at the heart of everything she does. Over the years, she has worked not just for her own growth, but with her family in mind. From a time when they did not have a home of their own, she was able to slowly build a more comfortable life for them. From investing in properties, starting small ventures, to creating a more stable foundation that they could all share.

That closeness makes the loss of her father even heavier to carry.

The emotional weight of that period overwhelmed her—but she also allowed those experiences to deepen her connection to the character Anne.

“To be honest, I wasn’t emotionally stable during those times. But in a way, doing this film was like an outlet for me. I didn’t have to think too much, portraying Anne didn’t require me to force vulnerability, because part of me was already in that state.”

– Glaiza de Castro

This, in turn, reflects the other side of versatility she carries—in how she transforms real experiences into strength.

A Fearless Curiosity

Over the years, Glaiza has taken on roles that challenge both her craft and her comfort zone. From a mistress in Temptation of Wife to a femme in Richman’s Daughter, and even a psychokiller in Slay Zone.

Each character demands a different energy, a different perspective, and Glaiza meets each one with the same commitment: to inhabit it fully and leave it unmistakably hers.

But she isn’t content to stay within those familiar territories. Just as she embraces variety in her personal life—exploring running, yoga, MMA, dancing, surfing, pilates, and even Hyrox—she brings the same curiosity and adventurous spirit to her acting and is eager to explore genres she has yet to tackle.

Among the genres she hopes to take on next is comedy. Something that would allow her to tap into a lighter, more spontaneous side of her artistry.

She also expresses interest in stepping onto the stage through musical productions and theater, where she can further integrate her love for music into her performance and storytelling.

“I’m really fascinated by genres that challenge other facets of my craft.”

– Glaiza de Castro

Her curiosity, paired with a fearless willingness to experiment, continues to shape the way she approaches her craft.

For Glaiza, artistry is never confined to one medium. Through her role as Anne, she shows that versatility is not just a skill. It is a mindset, reflected in the way she moves between roles, experiences, and the stories she chooses to tell.

In every sense, Glaiza continues to prove that the most powerful performances come from those brave enough to remain limitless.
