Filipino Rapper Kiyo Shows Self-Love in His New Release ‘Harana sa Sarili’
Filipino rapper Kiyo recently released a new rap song called ‘Harana sa Sarili,’ where he expresses his gratitude towards the simple pleasures in life.
Yukihiro Rubio, better known as Kiyo, is a rising Filipino rapper and songwriter known for his chill and soul-stirring Lo-Fi rap music.
Despite only turning 22 last November 10, the artist has already gained a reputation in the Filipino hip-hop scene. Some might recognize him through his past songs Eba, Dantay, Ikaw Lang, G, Ano Na, and Urong Sulong with Alisson Shore.
Kiyo’s Serenade
Harana sa Sarili is the rapper’s latest track right after he dropped Okay Lang Yan a month ago. Kiyo follows it up with a music video, which he directed. In less than 24 hours of the premiere on November 12, the rapper amassed around 100K views on YouTube, as of writing.
The 4-minute music video opens with Kiyo’s signature time intro. We soon find the Filipino rapper later lounging around the pool and bonding with his friends. Essentially, it showcases the mundane aspects of his life in an intriguing way.
In an interview, Kiyo claims that Harana sa Sarili is quite different from his other chill tracks.
“Masyado tong bouncy kesa sa mga naunang mas chill ko na tracks, uplifting yung mood nya pero yung lyrics kabaliktaran. Love song para sa sarili, yan ang sounds.”

Listening to it closely, its lyrics indeed runs deeper. The track centers on being lost and facing the challenges life throws. Furthermore, Kiyo acknowledges the harsh reality of living and how hard times in life are inevitable.
In one of his lines, the rapper reminds us that we need to experience hardships besides the pleasures in life.
“Gusto mo puro tamis dapat mayroon din pait”
During the latter part of the song, the following verses focused on the self-doubts and worries a person carries. It progressively gets darker as he raps about desperately finding ways how to stay sane.
Despite the existential crisis moment in the track, he eventually wraps it up by singing how he forgives himself regardless of the things he has gone through. In a way, the song is like a reassurance that everything will be alright in the end.
Moreover, Kiyo said that what inspired him from writing this track is because he’s happy that he’s still living.
“Minsan nakakalimutan natin magpasalamat sa sarili natin, nakakalimutan natin yung mga maliliit na bagay na dapat natin ikatuwa. Masaya lang ako na nandito pa ako. Kaya nasulat ko yung kanta na yan. “
What’s Next For Kiyo?
Surprisingly, the rapper has something more in store for us. On November 26, Kiyo will be dropping his first album ‘HARANASA’ containing 15 tracks. According to the artist, the anticipated album will represent different kinds of love.
“Para sa akin, ito yung iba-ibang uri ng pagmamahal: pagmamahal sa ibang tao, sa kaibigan, sa magulang, sa girlfriend, at siyempre sa sarili. Kaya HARANASA kasi mayroong harana para sayo, meron din na para sa akin.”
If you find yourself going through tough times, Harana sa Sarili can be your next comfort song.
