Did you know? Roberta Tamondong’s Preliminary Evening Gown is alluded to one of her earlier looks

As the grand finale comes nearer, Miss Grand International held its 2022 Preliminary Competition last Saturday.

Taking place in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, certain restrictions had to be made. Adhering to the country’s predominant Muslim faith, MGI had to switch their provocative swimsuits to a more subdued sportswear for judging.

While the sudden change in segment didn’t seem to bother the contestant as they continue to parade in their theatric performances. However, if there’s one thing that remained the same, it is the overwhelming quality of gowns glistening onstage.

Peaking at the right time, Philippines’ Roberta Tamondong looks like a Grecian goddess as she came out in a custom Larry Espinosa creation.

As exquisite as she is, one look at the gown might cause a sense of déjà vu, specially to many pageant fans. Don’t worry, we’re with you. This is the first time we saw this type of design and cut for Roberta.

In fact, this bares a lot of similarity to one particular gown we’ve also loved.

Something borrowed but bolder and grander

Mixing both sultry and classy, the cream white gown is serving us a whole lot of body. It features an artistic yet scandalous heart-shaped neckline.

The corset bodice hugs Roberta with various cut outs in the torso and hips accentuating her phenomenal figure.

Covered with crystal beading in a fishnet pattern, it cascades all over the dress, flowing down into a train.

As previously mentioned, Roberta already worn something in the same fashion. As many pointed out, her preliminary gown seems to be a more sparkly and glammed version of the one she wore during the pageant’s sashing ceremony.

From the color to the similar neckline and corset top, the only difference is that this version has a more flowy train. A contrast between simplicity and appeal, both looks were able to fit the occasion they were intended to be used for.

Many might say this move is safe at best but for us, this is a smart decision. Wearing a dress that’s inspired from one she first graced the competition in, it has now come full circle.

The final show of Miss Grand International 2022 will be taking place on Tuesday, October 25. With over 70 candidates vying for the golden crown, Roberta hopes to be the successor of Vietnam’s Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien. If that happens, she will be the first Filipino to ever win the title.

Hoping that it does happen, we wish you the very best of luck Roberta! Your preliminary performance was indeed strong and solid. We’re excited to see what you have in store for the finals. Keep fighting till the end!
