Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has finally unveiled the final list of eight entries featured for this year’s showcase of locally produced films.

According to the head of the selection committee and actress Boots Anson Roa, the basis of choosing the movies are these criteria: 40% for artistic excellence, 40% for commercial appeal, 10% for Filipino cultural values, and 10% for global appeal.

Furthermore, it was earlier in July when MMFF revealed the first four official entries based on script submissions. ABS-CBN Film Productions has two qualified flicks: “Labyu With An Accent” starring Coco Martin and Jodi Sta. Maria, and Partners in Crime with Vice Ganda and Ivana Alawi as the lead cast.

On the other hand, Joey de Leon and Toni Gonzaga’s “The Teacher” by TEN17P also got accepted. Qualifying last is Rein Entertainment Productions’ “Nanahimik Ang Gabi,” headlining Ian Veneracion, Heaven Peralejo, and Mon Confiado.

Then, last October 20, organizers announced the last four films to complete the eight final entries of MMFF 2022. Noel Trinidad and Liza Lorena’s “Family Matters,” directed by Nuel Naval and produced by Cineko, passed the requirements. Also included is Nadine Lustre’s “Deleter,” a horror-thriller piece directed by Mikhail Red and produced by Viva Communications, Inc.

In addition, MMFF 2022 will further showcase Edu Manzano, Aljur Abrenica, and Paolo Gumabao in the Borracho Film Production action-drama “Mamasapano: Now It Can Be Told.” Completing the list is Joel Lamangan’s “My Father, Myself,” starring Jake Cuenca and Dimples Romana.

In the 48th edition of the annual celebration of Filipino movies, MMFF welcomes the theme “Balik Saya.” All entries will be shown from December 25 (Christmas Day) to January 7, 2023.
