DCEU’s “The Flash” Movie Is Setting Up A Superb Cast
The upcoming “The Flash” movie is speeding its way towards a hefty cast. Promised to have a lot of superheroes involved (and as it should), the movie will feature some new, some old faces.

FLASHPOINT: The Comics
In a different comic universe, there lives another Scarlet-draped hero who’s managed tamper with the Multiverse. While a certain Witch is bringing some Chaos into the Universe she’s in, a Speedster is on his way back in time to break some timelines. You’ve read that right, folks. The Scarlet Speedster (a.k.a. Barry Allen/The Flash) will finally have his movie made after several delays. It will be loosely based on DC Comics‘ 2011 story arc called “Flashpoint”.

In the Flashpoint comics, Barry Allen literally runs back in time to undo a life event that has haunted him since he was a child. Unknown to him, this seemingly small change caused a butterfly effect. Barry wakes up to an alternate reality. He has no powers, and the world is on the brink of a massive Atlantean vs Amazonian war.
FLASHPOINT: The Movie
Given how unripe the DCEU movies have written Barry Allen’s Flash, we still have a blank slate for character development. And that’s a good thing. The Flashpoint movie can visually explore more about his past than the comics ever has. On the other hand, we’ve already seen how his story played out in CW’s The Flash TV series too. The seventh season will start airing this March 2021.

However, we don’t have to worry about that too much. It was already established in 2019’s CW Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover event that multiple universes exist within the DC live-action franchise. This answers the continuity issues and difference between the DCEU, the Arrowverse, and the other DC Universe shows.
Little is known about how much of the Flashpoint story would make its way to the movie. Although, we can surmise it won’t be an direct page-to-screen adaptation. From the officially announced cast itself, it looks like a different route is in the works. The list is still growing, and as the movie’s producer Barbara Muschietti explains during the DC FanDome event back in September 2020,
“It’s going to be fun and exciting and there are a lot of DC characters in it. Flash is the superhero of this film because he is the bridge between all of these characters and timelines. And in a way, it restarts everything and doesn’t forget anything.“

EZRA MILLER

Ezra Miller played Barry Allen in both Batman v Superman and Justice League. He’ll reprise his role as the Scarlet Speedster. Fun fact: Barry Allen in the comics is blond. Whereas, Barry Allen in the CW’s Arrowverse has dark brown hair. Ezra Miller retains his black hair for Barry Allen in both movies.

Ben Affleck dons the Dark Knight‘s cape once again. The movies established the connection between his Bruce Wayne and Ezra’s Barry. The Flash movie may expand on this even more. Allen. In the comics, the two have always had mutual respect — not only as superheroes but also as detectives. Barry works in the Forensics department for Central City Police, while Batman is the greatest tactician and detective in DC history.
MICHAEL KEATON

Surprisingly, Michael Keaton will be back as the Batman too. Although, an older version of Bruce Wayne. He originally played the role back in 1989. The “Batman” movie was directed by Tim Burton. In the Flashpoint story, Bruce was the one who died as a child, while his father Thomas became the Batman. Keaton’s Bruce Wayne could very well act as “Thomas Wayne” character for the film.
SASHA CALLE

Relative newcomer Sasha Calle will play as Kara Zor-El (a.k.a. Supergirl). This will be her first film outing. Supergirl is Superman’s biological cousin, but she wasn’t in the Flashpoint storyline. Her introduction to this movie could make her the “Superman” of the Flashpoint timeline, instead of Kal-El/Clark Kent. However, Kara Zor-El has already been in the DCEU since Man of Steel.
There aren’t any trailers yet since principal photography hasn’t started yet. Andy Muschietti (IT movies) is slated to direct the movie, while Christina Hodson (Bumbleebee, Birds of Prey) is the screenwriter. The Flash is slated to run in theaters this 2022.
