Buhay Boarder: Conquering fears against distance

Living far away from home is a big challenge. Individuals who experience it should take a full pack of courage, as a lot of adjustments will be made as time goes by. These adjustments may be beneficial and some may not. However, with these instances, a person will finally face and be exposed to reality ~ the real world. Here, independence will take place. It is the state of being independent and it means that these people aren’t depending on anyone’s authority. It may sound pleasing but being independent is sometimes difficult especially when you are both a boarder and a student at the same time.
Buhay Boarder: Conquering fears against distance
Quick story
It was the year 2019 when I first enter Bicol University. During that time, I can’t contain my excitement — I am finally a BUeño. I almost shout for joy but luckily, I managed not to. I’m happy yet I am nervous since starting that day, I am all by myself. I am a renter and a student living in Legazpi City while my parents reside in Camarines Sur.
During my first two (2) days, I am still delighted with what and where I am. I’m with my friends, I want that. However, sadness came during my third day away from my family. Without an explainable reason, I always cry at night and this is where fear and struggles almost pull me down. It was depressing.
It’s really hard, not until I embark on making everything in my control. Time passes and luckily I must say, I survived. Now, here are some realizations for you to read if you are trying to face fear against distance.
Here’s what I learned as a College Boarder

Homesickness is normal.
It’s a situation where you feel stressed because you’re miles away from a person you used to live with decades ago. The best example of it is leaving home to study at a university. In undergoing homesickness, you will cry every night. Aside from this, you will also have a hard time sleeping and concentrating on a certain idea or thing. But, I assure you that this is normal and one thing to do in order to cope with it is to be brave. You need to trust yourself and remember the reason why you’re there. That helps, I swear.
Time management is important.
Since you are only on your own, all of the work, may it be household or at school, everything is yours. Here, the only thing that will matter is how you make your schedule productive. Mastering the act of multitasking will help you conquer this fear and let you live a not-so-stressful life. Not that hard yet not that perfect too.

Budgeting will make you crazy.
I can’t lie about it especially today when groceries cost too much compared to before. It was really pricey. However, making a list of goods you need to buy will help you lessen your expenses. You may start by having your breakfast meals, then some instant food like noodles and canned goods, some chips maybe three (3), and lastly, go get yourself sale or promo items.
There are times when you’ll run out of things.
It can be food, it can be in your hygiene kit, it can be anything. During these times, it is important to have your back-up backup. Always be prepared since you have no one, no parents, no old friends, just you, just yourself.

Difficulty in socializing.
May it be in school or in your rented boarding house, we can’t deny the fact that sometimes, it is difficult to fit in, to socialize in other words.
The thing that will always matter here is to try. Try to approach, try to speak, there’s no wrong with trying. Remember that trying means you’re into it. Success doesn’t touch those people who are afraid of trying, of not risking.
In conclusion to this, being a person you don’t actually want is normal. Humans are adaptable, it’s our hidden talent.
“Now, if you are a boarder and a student like me, remember that you’re making a progress, even a small one. You’re going there so don’t easily give up. Remember your purpose, this is for you, your family, and your future. Padayon, you got this.”

She is a well motivated individual who finds writing as one of her favorite things to do. It is her past time hobby to write literary works such as poems, short stories and many more. Aside from this, she loves to talk with people, socialize with them as she saw that it is a great help to understand someone's story. Besides, her desire to become a great writer improved as she joined their school-based organization namely as Bicol Organization of Neo-Journalists (BONJour).
