Brave Soul: Things to do after you graduate
We can see students finally getting the fruit of their labor in just a few months. From their graduation photoshoot, and practices, to their big day; we know that every student would feel they are on a cloud nine during these days. And even after they graduate, it would probably still feel overwhelming.
To help you start your journey in the ‘real world’, here are some things you need to know as graduate students.
Things that you can do after you graduate:
Update your resume
After you graduate, make sure to update your resume. Put all the necessary information relevant to the job that you will apply for. These include a brief summary of your background, qualifications, skills, experiences, and achievements. Make it clear, comprehensive, and concise.
Get a government-issued ID
While waiting for any job opportunities, get yourself a government-issued ID. You can start applying for a passport if ever you want to work abroad. Meanwhile, you can get UMID, Philhealth ID, TIN, and NBI clearance if you want to work locally.
Apply for a job
Of course, after you graduate, you normally apply for a job. You can try applying directly on a company’s website, usually, they have it on their Career page. If not you can look it up on Google and some job websites like Indeed and Jobstreet.
You should also utilize LinkedIn. It’s a social media platform that focuses on business and employment. Try to make your profile interesting so employers would reach out to you. Also, you can connect to other people to widen your network.
Run a business
In case you don’t want to work for others, then you might want to build your own empire. If you prefer being your own boss, then running your own business might work for you. Start with the things you’re passionate about, if you’re into fashion then you can try on a clothing line.
Pursue postgraduate education
If you want to earn a professional degree, certificate, or diploma, you might want to enroll yourself in a school or university that offers postgraduate education. This is perfect for people who want to earn their master’s degree or doctoral degree.
Assess yourself
Above all, it’s important to assess yourself first to know which path you want to take. Whether you want to apply for a job immediately, run a business, or pursue a postgraduate degree, you should consider taking some time to think and breathe.
Life is not a one-size-fits-all and definitely not a race. If you want to take some time to rest before you enter the ‘real world’, then please do so.
Congratulations on being a graduate! Now, you’re off to greater things. We wish you luck as you embark on your journey and your future endeavors.
