Binibining Pilipinas Best in Swimsuit Through the Years
Years ago, the controversial swimsuit competition in pageants was meant to showcase candidates’ physical attributes. Beautiful, leggy, and curvy women were highly favored. Critics are arguing that swimsuit segments have no place in today’s beauty pageants.
But for me, the swimsuit competition has drastically changed in recent years. It is now used in promoting diversity, inclusion, and empowerment.
I believe that Binibining Pilipinas is more focused on the candidates’ confidence as they walk onstage wearing swimwear, and they award the Best in Swimsuit to a woman whose confidence shone through during the swimsuit competition.
Let’s look at the past winners of the Binibining Pilipinas Best in Swimsuit award.
2022 Binibining Pilipinas
Gabrielle Basiano from Eastern Samar bagged this year’s swimsuit award. She exuded confidence in a Justine Aliman white two-piece swimwear.
She was later on crowned as Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental and is set to compete in the 50th edition of Miss Intercontinental on October 15 in Egypt.
2021 Binibining Pilipinas
Meiji Cruz from Valenzuela wore an orange embellished swimsuit designed by Domz Ramos in collaboration with Mak Tumang.
She was named the BBP 2021 Best in Swimsuit and finished as the 2nd runner-up.
Note: There was no Binibining Pilipinas coronation held in 2020 due to the pandemic.
2019 Binibining Pilipinas

Moreover, she clinched the Binibining Pilipinas International 2019 crown and finished Top 8 in the 59th edition of Miss International.
2018 Binibining Pilipinas
Catriona Gray from Albay rocked this two-piece yellow swimsuit by Domz Ramos and won the BBP 2018 Best in Swimsuit award.
She also secured the Miss Universe Philippines 2018 title and was later crowned Miss Universe in its 67th edition in Thailand.
2017 Binibining Pilipinas

She bagged the BBP 2017 Best in Swimsuit award as well as the Miss Universe Philippines 2017 crown. She finished Top 10 in the 66th edition of Miss Universe held in the USA.
2016 Binibining Pilipinas
Joanna Eden from Quezon won the BBP 2016 Best in Swimsuit award while wearing a two-piece white swimsuit by Domz Ramos and Julius Jaguio.
She also took home the Binibining Pilipinas Supranational 2016 and finished Top 25 in the 8th edition of Miss Supranational held in Poland.
2015 Binibining Pilipinas
Lastly, Janicel Lubina from Palawan secured the BBP 2015 Best in Swimsuit award in two-piece red swimwear.
She was also named the Binibining Pilipinas International 2018 and finished Top 8 in the 55th edition of Miss International.
Indeed, these queens embodied the attributes that the Binibining Pilipinas is looking for. They are diverse and empowered. They prove that the organization doesn’t have a particular physical standard when choosing the best woman for Best in Swimsuit award. It’s how they carry themselves on stage.
Which queen do you believe should be here?
John Angelo, who prefers to be called Jao, is a full-time fur parent of his eight aspins. Prior to the pandemic, writing was his weakness, but he has since discovered that aside from his fur babies, writing is something therapeutic.
