After a long hiatus, Cathy Garcia-Molina finally makes a comeback
Cathy Garcia-Molina, renowned film director in the Philippines, makes a comeback to the industry after a two-year hiatus.
According to an ABS-CBN News report, this comeback will feature the partnership between ABS-CBN Films, Star Cinema, and Kumu.
Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina also expressed her excitement,
“Tuwang tuwa ako because marami tayong artistang mabibigyan ng screening time ika nga. To show off what they have.”
Olivia Lamasan, ABS-CBN Films Managing Director, shares,
“Ako natutuwa ako kasi what we are talking about is not just a movie on screen. You know, beyond that are the other executions that we will see outside of the film.”
Cathy Garcia-Molina is known for making our all-time favorite romantic-comedy movies. She directed films that starred in many of our showbiz tandems. These include KathNiel, LizQuen, and the ever-famous Popoy and Basha love story stars John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo.
She took a two-year hiatus, aiming to opt out of filmmaking as a retiree. She decided to take a break to focus her time and energy on her kids. However, on July 3, 2021, Cathy Garcia-Molina announces that she will be making a comeback with Star Cinema films.
Hopefully, we will get to see a lot more exciting titles from her.
Cathy Garcia-Molina has produced so many films that became our country’s cult favorites. Furthermore, her movies have made so much of the pop culture and quotable lines we have today!
Some of her most significant works include Hello Love Goodbye (2019), which starred Alden Richards and Kathyrn Bernardo. Though this couple was a new combination, the fresh chemistry between the two made the movie a blockbuster hit among the viewers.
Cathy Garcia-Molina also directed The Hows of Us (2018), which starred our favorite duo, Kathryn and Daniel Padilla! This movie was an absolute tearjerker that (personally) left me in tears! Not to mention the “tagos sa puso” dialogues that occurred between Primo and George.
“Palibhasa kasi alam na alam mo kung pano ako kunin e. Isang ngiti, isang kanta, isang yakap, isang sorry, wala. Umiikot na uli yung mundo ko.”
Moreover, how can we forget One More Chance and A Second Chance?
I have included this in my list of must-rewatch, again and again, rom-com movies! Direk Cathy-Garcia Molina really gave us the most iconic lines of the decade in this film, together with Bea Alonzo’s heartbreaking delivery:
“Kasi ako totoo umaasa parin ako na sabihin mo, sana ako parin. Ako nalang. Ako na lang ulit.”
John Lloyd’s gut-wrenching lines also add to the palate of flavors in the film:
“She loved me at my worst. You had me at my best. At binalewala mo lang lahat yun.”
Basha said, “I just made a choice,” and Popoy really said, “And you chose to break my heart.”
If this doesn’t convince you to go ahead and start a marathon of Cathy Garcia-Molina films, I don’t know what will. So while we eagerly await the return of this rom-com director to the industry, we can grab some popcorn and stream her array of past movies.
