Running goes through boom due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Gyms remain closed, spin classes had to be canceled, and boot camps faced discontinuation. With the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), we still somehow look for a way to exercise and at the same time, escape the confinement of our own homes. So, we turn to running— and jogging, and cycling.

Running goes through boom due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Living in a village in Pasig (which also covers Cainta and Taytay), we would see runners on every street. Wearing masks and sometimes, even pets in tow, they go out and move their bodies. With the whole country in a quarantine, running remains one of the excuses that you can tell yourself to go out and get some fresh air.

Start running!

Go outside, take the first step, and practice running. You can start small and you shouldn’t worry too much about how far or how long you’ll go. The consistent effort that you put yourself through will be the best way to build results in a healthy manner. Don’t do any heroic efforts with trying to run too far, too fast, and too soon.

It takes time to build strength and stamina to go long distances. So, don’t feel disappointed if you have difficulty running a mile or more than that. Be patient and maybe you could run three miles straight without any breaks soon enough. Do not set unrealistic goals and start with manageable workouts.

Practice social distancing while running to avoid COVID-19.

There may be a lot of people who had already thought of the same thing as you. They may have started practicing running. However, with COVID-19 still at large, you still should practice social distancing. Stick to routes that remain open and where it stays easy to maintain a safe physical distance from others.

Always be mindful of other people’s space which meant you would need to run on the street instead of a sidewalk. Practice safety. Tell someone you’re going out and when you’ll be back. Wear proper footwear and appropriate running gear. Plan your route in advance and don’t forget to wash your hands when you get home. Take careful measures to avoid other people and wear a mask if you think it is necessary.

If all else fails, you can always run back and forth in your living room. In order for you to monitor your progress, you can use running calorie calculators, just like the one provided by Fitness Volt.
