VP/Tech | Redmi 14C: Bright Display, Cosmic Power

For all you hustlers out there who live larger than life, the Redmi 14C offers large things in exchange for a small price.

Shortly after the success of the 14T series, Xiaomi launches the Redmi 14C to tackle the budget market. With an emphasis on its display and design, the Redmi 14C looks like a promising device for the average smartphone user.

But it takes more than a great display to please a hustler. In this VP Tech edition, we’ll be reviewing the Redmi 14C and see if it’s capable of providing large outcomes for its budget-friendly price.

Build and Design

The Redmi 14C has four cosmic colors: Midnight Black, Dreamy Purple, Starry Blue, and Sage Green. The unit of our choice comes in the Starry Blue colorway that sports a magnificent back finish reminiscent of star trails in the sky.

It has a slim body at 8.22mm that exudes a sleek and stylish appearance. It boasts an overall refined appearance with a light and comfortable heft at 204g (for the Starry Blue variant.) While the tall and large display might intimidate you, the Redmi 14C will not tire your hands easily.

We must say that its back design stands out among the crowd. The finish reflects light in a way that feels magical especially when turned against the blue sky.

Display

Now to the star of the show (see what we did there?) its large display. The Redmi 14C has a large and immersive 6.88” display, the largest among the Redmi number series.

With this large display, the viewing experience through the phone becomes highly immersive. It also allows the phone to display more content than usual which we highly appreciate. The viewing experience was pleasant with its ability to deliver vibrant colors and clear images.

We know this bigger display can encourage prolonged hours of usage which can lead to eye straining. The good thing is, Redmi integrated a bunch of eye safety technology within the phone’s display to keep this from happening.

You’ll be glad to hear that the Redmi 14 C has a TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light and Flicker Free certification that ensures its users have less eye fatigue.

Camera

The Redmi 14C sports a versatile 50MP main camera and a 13MP front camera. These cameras perform well, especially under well-lit conditions. Don’t get us wrong, it takes decent night photos, but it’s also everything you would expect from phones within this price range.

Photos taken using its main back camera are vibrant and sharp. It maintains the ambiance of the photo without making it look oversaturated. If you’re willing to spend a bit more storage, there’s also a 50MP setting available for even more high-quality images.

The front-facing camera makes sure that you look your best with each click. Photos taken using its front-facing camera are detailed with just the right amount of a beautified effect for that picture-perfect face card.

The cameras performed decently well overall. It can handle the hustle and bustle of daily errands as well as immortalize moments into precious memories.

Battery

The Redmi 14C sports a massive 5160mAh battery. This makes it the perfect device for long nights of binge-watching your favorite shows and streaming. With average usage, the Redmi 14C can last you about a day and a half of usage as expected.

It also comes with a 33W charger out of the box, but a reminder that the phone can only support 18W of charging. This 33W charger ought to be useful with your other Redmi devices lying around that support 33W.

Performance and Storage

In terms of internals, the Redmi 14C is powered by a MediaTek Helio G81-Ultra processor. The performance feels smooth overall with the ability to run most games that don’t require much processing power.

Based on our testing, it ran Mobile Legends: Bang Bang without any issues as long as in its default settings. You might experience some lag when running heavier games like Genshin Impact, but it could run it albeit not that smoothly.

For everyday tasks, on the other hand, the Redmi 14C performs well. It delivers smooth and efficient performance especially when loading and jumping from one app to another. Thanks to its large RAM it could go up to 16GB with memory extension.

The Redmi 14C runs on Xiaomi HyperOS with 4 configurations you can choose from 4GB+128GB, 4GB+256GB, 6GB+128GB, and 8GB+256GB.

Overall Thoughts

For a budget phone, the Redmi 14C offers decent specs with a premium design and feel on the exterior. It has the capability of supporting your day-to-day usage without feeling like it’s slowing you down. It has decent cameras and a massive battery that can sustain your lifestyle from being busy to leisurely.

It’s a phone that gives you a larger perspective as to what budget phones could do. Its large and vibrant display says it all. Now you can experience competitive cameras, batteries, and display without going over your budget.
