Continuing its mission to provide realme users with smartphones boasting luxury-inspired aesthetics and upgraded features. realme, the global phone brand, is expanding its campaign to be a “Portrait Master” with advanced camera phone capabilities. The latest addition to their lineup is the new realme 12 series 5G. Moreover, it is officially making its debut in the Philippines this March.
In this unboxing and first impression review, we’re diving into the realme 12+ 5G.
The Unboxing
Packaging the realme 12+ 5G in realme’s signature yellow box, the sleek and clean design prominently displays the brand and model on the front, with key specifications listed on the back.
Upon opening the box, you’ll encounter the text “make it real” printed on a mini phablet. Inside, you’ll discover the SIM ejector, Quick Guide, warranty documents, and a complimentary jellycase.
The realme 12+ 5G is snugly protected in eco-plastic beneath the mini-phablet box. Also included are a USB-A to USB-C cable and a fast-charging 67W SUPERVOOC Charge adapter.
realme 12+ Build and Aesthetics
Available in two color variants, Navigator Beige and Pioneer Green (the latter being our review unit), the realme 12+ 5G exudes a premium feel. Moreover, like its predecessor, the realme 11 series 5G, this device features a Premium Vegan Leather design on the back. Therefore, boasting a silk-like texture that’s resistant to dirt.
What sets this model apart is its camera panel design. Realme has collaborated with renowned International Luxury Watch Design Master, Ollivier Savéo, to create a rear camera setup reminiscent of a luxury watch. With Savéo’s expertise working with brands like Rolex, Roger Dubuis, Piaget, Breitling, and Quentin, the realme 12+ 5G showcases a luxurious Polished Sunburst Dial, Golden Fluted Bezel, and 3D Jubilee Bracelet design. Additionally, the triple-camera setup on the back, combined with the vegan leather design, exudes a premium look.
The front boasts a large 6.67” FHD+ AMOLED E4 screen with a punch-hole front camera.
On the sides, you’ll find the volume rocker and power button on the upper left. Moreover, the bottom houses the USB-Type C charging port, speaker grills, and sim tray. Lastly, the top features a mini-microphone hole and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Be a Portrait Master with its Camera
One of the standout features of the new realme 12+ 5G is its triple camera system. First, the rear camera, it boasts a 50MP SonyLYT600 OIS sensor, accompanied by an 8MP 112° Wide Angle lens and a 2MP Macro lens.
The SonyLYT600 is a top-tier camera sensor. Moreover, its part of Sony’s latest line of sensors, renowned for their large sensor sizes that enable excellent light intake, resulting in superbly illuminated photos. Moreover, it is engineered to deliver high-quality and detailed photos even with its 50-megapixel limit.
Furthermore, the camera of the realme 12+ 5G supports Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and offers up to 2x In-Sensor Zoom and Cinematic 2x Portrait Mode. This allows it to capture images with a perspective close to that of the human eye, ensuring a true-to-life photo experience.
In our initial testing, we’re pleased to report significant improvements in the camera performance compared to other mid-range phones from realme. The photos appear clear and accurate, even when compared to those taken with an iPhone 14 Pro Max. Check out the samples below.
