Being the best phone for discovering and exploring, the brand flew us to the beautiful island of Siquijor to experience the true power of the OPPO Reno13 series. From the brand-new AI features to taking photos underwater, the OPPO Reno13 F 5G made sure we captured the best of what the island has to offer.

After spending a few weeks on the phone, we have collected our thoughts to share with you in this edition of VP Tech.

Look and Display

The OPPO Reno13 F 5G has three colorways: Graphite Grey, Plume Purple, and Luminous Blue. The unit we took out for a spin sports the Plume Purple variation with the mesmerizing butterfly effect at the back.

This design screams elegance if anything. It’s simple and sleek with a touch of whimsy as it reveals the butterfly design once you tilt the phone. The camera set-up is honest, and the simplicity of the arrangement hits posh to the tea.

Moreover, the phone only weighs 192g which makes it lightweight and easy to touch. Our hands were locked with this phone the whole time we were exploring Siquijor, and it didn’t feel like a workout.

Furthermore, the OPPO Reno 13 F 5G boasts a 6.67-inch OLED FHD+ display. This display can reach up to 120Hz, providing users with a pleasant viewing experience. It is a flat-screen display so watching videos and using social media feels seamless thanks to its 92.2% screen-to-body ratio.

Build and Durability

With a phone dubbed as the ideal phone to discover and explore, we’d expect nothing less than a topnotch build and durability. Thankfully, they stayed true to their word and practically delivered.

Backed with an IP69, IP68, and IP66 rating, the phone has outstanding resistance against water and dust. Its IP68 and IP69 ratings also signify that the phone can withstand freshwater submersion as well as water at high temperatures.

Moreover, the OPPO Reno13 F 5G is built with an All-Round Armour protection that ensures the phone can handle accidental drops. The brand says they used innovative bionic cushioning and shock absorption technologies to protect the phone from taking damage after an oopsie.

These ratings and technologies were the assurance we carried while traversing the steep paths and the fresh waters of Cambugahay Falls, Siquijor.

Lo and behold the phone could take a beating and withstand the natural forces of nature. We’ll get into more details later, but yes, we did take the phone underwater to take photos and videos and it survived.

Camera

The OPPO Reno13 F 5G sports a 50MP main camera, an 8MP Ultra-Wide Camera, and a 32MP Selfie Camera in the front. These cameras take high-definition photos regardless of whether it’s day or night.

I like how the images were not oversaturated or overly enhanced. It’s simple and true to what you’re seeing without messing up the colors or the contrast within the photo.

Its cameras are quick and reliable even when you want to take a quick snaps of something happening in real time. We’ll get into the AI features later, but a huge part of its utility relies on AI capabilities. Don’t worry, it’s still great without AI, but you can use AI to enhance or save what you have.

Additionally, the phone being fully submersible in fresh water means you can use it to take photos underwater. If you’re still having doubts, just check out these photos we took during our time in Cambugahay Falls. Just make sure to turn the underwater mode on before you dip it in water to keep it safe.

It takes some time to get used to, but once you’ve gotten a grip on how to take the perfect shot, you’ll find it difficult to stop.

Also, the OPPO Reno13 Series has a Share with iPhone feature now that lets you easily share photos and videos with your friends’ iPhones and vice versa. This feature became a lifesaver during the whole trip as it eased us of the lengthy process of transferring files from one phone to another.

AI Features

So let’s talk about the OPPO Reno13 Series 5G’s AI features. Specifically, we want to talk about the AI Live Photo and the newest additions to OPPO’s AI Editor feature: AI Clarity Enhancer, AI Unblur, and AI Reflection Remover.

Sometimes there’s just more to a photo than what it shows. With the AI Live Photo feature, you can now catch every moment from a single click. After enabling the AI Live Photo feature, just tap and hold the photo to reveal the full footage of what went down when you took the photo.

Bothered by low-quality images? AI Clarity Enhancer is the quick fix for that. This AI feature increases the resolution of an image, making it sharper and more visually appealing.

Does your subject move a lot? The AI Unblur feature restores those blurry details on your photo and fixes them through AI. This helped us a lot in saving shots from the trip that were originally blurry. Trust me, a huge “phew” was thrown out when we discovered we could simply use this to restore an important photo.

Furthermore, we’ve all taken a photo from behind a window at least once. The AI Reflection Remover removes that annoying glare glass window left in the photo.

Of course, it still has the AI Eraser 2.0 which we know and love plus a bunch of new fun AI Studio features that turn your photos into stunning portraits.

Performance and Storage

The OPPO Reno13 F 5G runs on Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 which provides decent power to the phone. It’s a 2-year-old processor, but it won’t let you down especially when performing basic tasks like watching your favorite show and doomscrolling on social media.

As expected, it runs less demanding games like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang effortlessly. While you can run heavier games like Genshin Impact on the phone, we recommend choosing the low option for an optimal gaming experience.

It has an AI Multi-Cooling System that manages heat dissipation, so your phone stays cool even when the game’s hot.

Moreover, it boasts up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage to back up all the photos and videos you’re going to take with the phone. That large RAM also ensures your phone’s running smoothly even when your to-do list looks rough.

Battery and Charging

With a 5800mAh battery, rest assured your phone will stay with you as you discover and explore. This battery can last you the whole day if you want to. I still remember using the phone since 9 AM to shoot content and be left with 43% of battery at 8 PM.

It also has a 45W SUPERVOOC Flash Charge capability that ensures you’ll never miss a core memory. Just plug it in for 30 minutes and you’ll go from 1% to 44% just like that. It’s the biggest battery in the Reno series, and it shows.

Overall Thoughts

The Oppo Reno13 F 5G has exceptional durability backed with stylish looks and competent performance. Though it’s the little sibling among the Reno13 Series, the OPPO Reno13 F 5G feels complete for people who want an all-around phone for every day.

True to its discover and explore theme, the phone does work well with adventure. You can dip it in water, it doesn’t mind accidental drops, and it takes beautiful photos of the view.
